Got this $1 coin in my change today,
My first thought, it has been struck with a number/letter stamp

But the sides are not raised or tapered , very neat ,clean and deep
What do you think?
Ever seen it before?

Hey there Pablo , i did look for that ... No evident sign
Guess i could always palm it off to K man .. Let him figure it out

The dirt amount thats built up around the 0
seems to Be similiar to whats around the
Small coin related letters..

i have seen a few of these coins, i collect error coins and the likes, a few sites i lurk on regarding coin collecting etc, most people are of the opinion that the mysterious 'extra' numbers are PMD (post mint damage), someone is stamping them, either it be some sort of counting system or something, no one i have spoke to or that i have read can put a answer to it, but i have read that it is not from the mint

We have a friend that machined half the eight off $1000 worth of assorted coins in the late 80's with the intent of seeing if he ever got any back in his change in the future ... haven't seen him in a couple of years but at 25 yrs on i don't think anyone has ever seen one of his .. might be something similar

I am a printer by trade,,,, its the perfect shape and size from a numbering machine.
These are used on paper eg raffle tickets.
How it was done? not sure.

I thought that it was against the law to deliberately deface the Queens coin? Is this not the case?
