Hi all,
Just thought I would firstly say thanks for the wealth of info on this page.

My name is Sean and have just purchased the x-terra 705 dual coil. Currently living in Broken Hil.

Went to the local park today to see what it's all about and try and learn something about the machine.

Well luck be had I found my first $1 coin as well.

Came home to mick around a bit in the yard and found some tin and rusty nails. So it works is the bonus.

Not sure if it is working as it is meant to be as it picks up coins and rusty nails all at the same time.

Would be. Ice just to be picking up the good stuff :D

Welcome to the Forum Patto, and congrats on the first coin find ,.... keep trawling through the info mate ,... lotta firsts still to come yet. :)
Nice that you scored your new machine too ! :D

Thanks Silver, very happy the wife let me get the x-terra straight off the bat.

Thought I would be waiting a year or two but sold some shares to buy it lol.

Got a great bargain when I went to a second authorised dealer in our little town.

Got minelab gloves, headphones, cover for the screen, and minelab bag for my finds all for $50.

Have to say the gods appear to want me to have some fun with the kids on this venture. :D

you got yourself a good machine, I'm out and about all the time with mine, love it.

Got to go out again today since the rain finally stopped.

We have a few local parks so took the three kids with me.

Found three 20c pieces a set of earphones (thrown in bin) and a few ring pulls.

Overall happy as I could tell the coins almost straight away. Only problem is the parks all have watering systems so can't dig and they always react to me going over it.

Little annoying but not prepared to change any settings as inwill most certainly miss something.

Going to head out and try and do some relic hu ting tomorrow. Hoping I can find some old settelment out Silverton that's on the common so I can have a good look about.

And yep loving the machine still.

Awesome town you live in Patto, love Broken Hill. There would be plenty of history around there I reckon.Maybe head out to the camp areas near Menindee lakes, there is one camp area that has a tree that was marked by Burke and Wills when they camped in the area. You never know they might have left something behind.

Thanks Eldorado, I might just have to do a little bit of research on that and take the drive.

I was thinking Silverton first but this may have changed my mind.

A bit of history would be amazing.

Have had a search for any threads of people's finds. If there is one I'll put it up there rather then keeping this one going if that's what I'm meant to do.

I went out again today, just to the local park. Not expecting to find much as it's really only used by kids. The adults all have a nice chair to sit on so never much in way of coins floating around.

However today the detector went a bit funny starting on 22 then continuing up and down not settling on any number. It did show the depth to be close to the surface so I decided to scrape the top off. Locating a small (4inch pocket knife open). Has not been there to long or it's well protected as the silver is good but the timber a bit worn.

Just wondering if I'm doing something wrong as I have not had many where the numbers on the face of the 705 stay on a number unless it -8 or -6.

Thanks for any advice.

Sketchy numbers usually mean junk, small solids, coins etc will have a solid id but wil still wander a bit
Using the machine's pinpointer is usually a good hint if it is a small solid target dig it if it echos its junk
Are you using a discrimination mode? I only run without discrimination on beaches as parks are full of junk

Thanks B5. To be honest I'm not using the discrimination as far as I am aware I have it left open so all numbers are showing up. (That's what discrimination means I think)

Were I live I can only go to kids parks at the moment and. It really dig as it would not be nice for the kids twisting ankles in the small hole inwould leave even though I fill them in.

I have had most of my 20c pieces sit on a number but everything else has gone from one extreme to the other.

It's also showing a deep find when I have a pull ring on top of the grass which is confusing me a little as well. I tried to use the wiggle line after a you tube video but still not giving accurate depth all the time unless it's a coin on its back.

Thanks for the links.

I've never used a mine lab but junky objects are always hard to pinpoint, if it's hard to pinpoint its probably junk
junky targets will always throw erratic ids and depth will be erratic too, if there is too many junky targets it makes it difficult to pick out the good targets without the discrimination
Just checking is your cable lead neatly wrapped and not flopping around the shaft? and check the tightness of the cable plug end occasionally as they can come loose :)

Thanks for the reply,

I think it is only when I am hitting junk or when I have a pull ring with a coin within a few cm of each other.

The pocket knife blade was open and only showing the side profile so very thin. Maybe that is why it was all over the shop.

The cord is defiantly curled like a fine piece of artwork and plugged in nicely.

I had to take it apart for travel so hopefully when I hit the beaches I will have a little more luck.

Do people use the skid 18khz could for beach in all metal or the 7.5. I have not used the 18 at all yet as have been finding coins and the knife so didn it want to change a good thing.

I have looked at a few videos but after opinions from those that always use them on the beach.

Cheers Sean.
