I had a free hour last night around dusk, so I drove over to a nearby showground. I was looking for recent drops, as it gets a lot of use. Alas the main showground had been fenced off and was off-limits. Still, I detected for about half an hour around the periphery and came up with three dollars and a 1951 half penny.

I wasn't expecting a pre-decimal coin in my first shoot!

Well done, didn't take me long to find my first, but has been a bit of a drought since then unfortunately. :)

Excellent work mfdes, you've just uncovered a small piece of Australian History. Hopefully there are many more to follow.

Fantastic mate I've only detected one pre-decimal and it was a shilling as well (1954)...found a 1861 half-penny years ago sunbaking at an old Cobb & Co. change station near where I used to live..didn't have a detector then was just specking the area
