If you have ever found a shilling on the goldfields - think of this. During October 1868 on the Berlin Goldfields (Rheola Vic) it was reported that between 300 - 400 miners protested over the price of bread which was one shilling, double the price of nearby towns. "They considered that injustice was being done and wished to see the monopoly broken."

My Dad mentioned that to me when I found an 1846 Shilling at a goldfield, he said that would have been a weeks worth of food back then. Coin is in good condition too.

Just off track a bit.
13 Feb 1966. A sixpence bought me 6 cobbers (remember cobbers?) On 14 Feb 1966 5 cents (but still the same sixpence) bought 5 cobbers - I am convinced decimal currency was a Milk Bar Lollie counter conspiracy. No amount of argument would convince the Milk bar owner. Mind you, it still bought a pack of Scanlens Footy cards.

Beagle - don't get me started on the cost of living nonsense. It has bought them two flags. See how pxssed of Demitroiu was on GF day because Freo lost? they want and 'even' comp at the expense of the vic teams. Lets not forget the three the Fake Fitzroy Team won. The only respect I have for interstate GFs is the Crows, Eagles and Port - they won theirs without an consessions, $$ etc etc.
