I'd just like to say you are all AMAZING! I can sit here for hours reading everyones posts!

I'll be the one asking a million questions :D

Moved to central vic a while ago and now living on 50 acres of awesome :) I've panned alot before but Santa is just going to accept the fact that I'm never going to be a completely good girl and buy me that metal detector I've always wanted this year. Hence... I'm here to learn!

I realise detector brands and models is going to be like the never ending holden vs ford battle, everyone has their own favorite. But hoping you guys can steer me in the right direction!

I'm pretty lucky location wise - I have old mines just out the back, this property in particular will be interesting! I have a gully section down the back which I'm guessing may have been dug before, so many sinkholes - piles etc. I'll take some pics tomorrow :) - next door has found nuggets - across the road heresay but apparently a $22,000 nugget found. So I'm as keen as they come! and stubborn to boot! If theres anything here i'm determined to find it!

Have a lake here out the back, playing around panning the other day and finding dust. 10m out my back door, its going to be a tough life I tellsya!

Looking forward to getting to know you all and learning as much as I can!!

Welcome aboard, You shouldn't let it slip there might be gold at your joint you will have 1000 forum members lined up at your gate in the morning. haha. Its a great forum and full of great people. Cheers Balx

G'day Misscadillac, welcome aboard. How lucky can you be having a spot like that, hope you post up some nice pics when you get a few nugs?

What sort of budget do you have for a detector?

G'day Misscadillac, welcome aboard. sounds like a great spot alright, watch out around those old mine shafts, no need to tell you how unstable they can be.. you never know what others have left behind, good luck with the new detector when you get it..

I dont own a detector, but get the best you can afford, go to the dealer and get the best area you live in and will be working most.

Good luck with the hunt!

Cheers, Tone

Welcome misscadillac1964, it sounds like you're living an Aussie Prospectors dream. I'm looking forward to seeing some pics soon.

I've taken note of your other hobby so you wont find me out back digging up your lawn

All the best and let us know if you have any questions.

Nugget.

Hey Heatho! thankyou!! Not sure on budget as yet.... I was originally looking at the minelab eureka gold? - good price mediocre level would do the job etc. (naturally i'd love to just run out and get a GPX5000 or something! but thats a few of my cars on the road sort of $$ for me. HOWEVER! just scored myself some work over at a mine in SA so it might even be a better chrissy than expected LOL And the more I look around here the more potential I see and of course now i'll be always thinking I'm missing out on something if I dont have the big banger!

Thanks TenOunce Tone!! ooooh i'd love to be out hunting where you live! and not even for the gold hahaha Spiders!! If you ever come across any tarantulas on your travels send them my way!!
haha and yes I'm as graceful as an elephant at the best of times so I'm always extra careful around mine sites :)

Nugget! I'd definitely give you a head start, I like a challenge ya see! and besides... running out of places to hide the bodies :8

Welcome MC1964, have a look in the detector section, like you said about the holden/ford its all in the eye of the beholder... or is it?

My playground :)
so basically the property is a big long block - 3 gullys - and tonnes of water comes through here.
previous owner owned an excavation company - came up here weekends ... gets on the cans.. HELLOOOOOO lake! 40ft deep in some parts originally according to him

Theres a natural creek that runs through here but everyone used to get flooded - hence the lake - now basically it will fill from 3 directions and flows out via the creek.
I've had a pan most sides and always find little teeny bits.
1377846624_001.jpg

next section - the more i clear it the more I holes and piles i find haha hard to tell in pics but someones done alot of something here at some stage
1377847008_007.jpg

next gully! this is where i'm really interested in :) its again hard to see how the ground is. But theres sinkholes everywhere - I can see theres alot of natural erosion but an where the water runs etc. but you can see wheres theres been someone digging etc.
I know the people who owned this place before me have never had a detector or let anyone do anything here because they were always planning on doing it themselves. So i'm a bit excited. What do you think? got potential??

Huge potential! I am so jealous you would shoot me from miles away; if you knew I was coming :D
Get yourself a Garrett AT Gold and go for it, $799.00 in latest GG&T (maybe Nugget can get better price?)
I paid 3 times as much for a detector but this one will pay for itself and the 5000 to replace it from what I've seen.
Or hold off for a bit, I believe Garrett are releasing a new detector in Sept(?) to rival the 5000, but price will probably be up near the 5000
Good luck anyway, you've already got the land so 90% of problem solved.

Hi MissC, Great shots , looks like a great place to live , so without giving too much away, what general area are you in ?

Cheers Paul

G'day misscadillac welcome to the forum. Thanks for sharing the photos looks like a awesome place you have and great to see a lady who likes shooting as well. Best of luck and look forward to seeing more photos in the future.

Thanks Golds! yesss love my guns and cars etc. BUT I dont shoot anything that doesn't need to be shot ( i have a fox, piggy, roo, rabbit and a zombie that get hammered though) haha 'shooting gallery out the back"

It'll happen headbut! i'm determined to find lots LOL

What can I say living the dream, but wow it gets hot where you are realy hot. I dont mind the 3.5 hour drive from Traralgon to Maryborough, dont know if I could live in central vic.
Detected off and on this year, but just after boxing day @ 42 deg even the flys stayed away.

PM me if ya need a hand detecting ya block LOL.

So where abouts in gippy are you from.

chow

Newry girl originally! but was hazelwood/yinnar for the last 10 or so years.
You dont know what your missing! yup it gets hot but the inbetweens are absolutely gorgeous! Beats the stinky valley hands down!

I would agree with the post above on the garret AT gold detector , great entry level machine and maybe it will tip you into enough nuggets to buy a 5000 ( be aware of the counterfeit mine labs on fleabay )

If you're finding specs already by panning then a high banker will do it faster if you don't mind shovelling for your pay

If it was me though I would be dragging a chain from my belt and SLOWLY walk that whole place with a detector , score the big nuggies before someone else does !
