So I understand that its a huge no no doing any prospecting in the national park - i'm ok with that.

However National Park owns the land I think its 20m or so above the high water mark of Eucumbene & Jindabyne. The land below that is Snowy Hydro, I know this because of doing some weed spraying for Snowy Hydro in the past we had to determine who is in charge of what.

Has anyone looked into being able to work the Eucumbene River in Snowy Hydro land - say the Denison Area - at the moment with Lake Eucumbene so low there is many K's of Eucumbene River accessible under Snowy Hydro rights.

Not %100 sure on that.
But I do remember reading somewhere that 2 guys had there detectors and car confiscated for prospecting the lake a few years ago when it was low.
I also believe the court through it out as the said they where looking for old coins around the old township.

You might have to look into that a little more.
Maybe phone parks for classification
Cheers Kane.

I know the guy well and he wasn't detecting for gold,(only relics and coins). He unknowingly kept a bunch of farming relics ouside his caravan and it got up the nose of some local "do gooder", who dobbed him in for disturbing "Local History" of Old Adaminaby. Didn't end up going to court.(also nothing was confiscated). Only parts of the West bank of Eucumbene are National Park.

Cheers Wal.

If you use garmin topo v4, in your gps, the boundries of all national parks and state forests are programmed in, and are pretty accurate down to the meter, but your gps will at best give you down to 3 m, plausible defense I think if you wanted to try your luck.

Was only going on memory on something I read 18 months ago.
Might not be the same person.
Coz there where 2 people. And not from the area.
But I may be mistaken.

Thx guys,
I'm not blessed to own a GPS, however I do know it is Snowy Hydro land - after giving it some extra thought I guess if it is owned by Snowy Hydro then I would need permission to prospect on their land - so I guess I'll send them an email.
Shall let y'all know the outcome.

Got a reply today from Snowy Hydro.

Bad news is they decided not to grant me permission to prospect in the area i requested.

"Weve considered your request and based on a number of factors, including the proximity of the Kosciuszko National Park, unfortunately, cannot provide permission for this activity."

Well at least i have the answer to that question - i guess the entire Eucumbene river is off limits then - pity - i reckon there would be plenty of yellow stuff in there - and the snowy hydro portion of that river is many k's.

Bet it got them thinking about it though. Wouldn't surprise me if one of the employees decided to "field test the soil integrity" at some point in the near future haha.

This is a really interesting thread. Perhaps it is something that NAPFA can write the Snowy Hydro. Will PM you -- will need more details about this. It does not seem right that because something is NEAR a national park then the rule is different. Especially for such minor disturbance. Of course I can go an bog my trailer at the lake and dig that out!

I was up there in the last couple of days and caught up with a couple of NAPFA and forum members to discuss local issues.

If any other forum members have similar experience can they contact me as well please.
