Just received a Blackwoods advertisement for welding requirements, choked on my coffee looking at the prices. The mind immediately flashed back to what we use at our bush prospecting camp, when something breaks. Each year we visit our local battery scrap dealer and select three discarded batteries that show signs of life ($5.00 ea) After a deep charge we connect in series (36Volts) and are able to carry out arc welding repairs on breakdowns. Welding helmet, welding leads, a packet of electrodes and $15.00 batteries, job done. The welders I just saw began at around $5,000.00 (Gulp, splutter, cough.)
***One lucky traveller we came across back in early 2000 had a crack in their caraven "A" frame and was overwhelmed when we did a repair. An email months later thanking us again, they had travelled back East and arrived home with van in tow, safe & well with no further concerns.***

we had a blackwoods shop here for years peter
they went online only and lost a lot of customers ie the company i work for as we could not walk in and get ppe
they closed all their accounts
you always needed very deep pockets to shop at blackwoods here ,other shops here same make same product usually 25 to 30% cheaper
the good old battery welder gets things working again
