Have a business idea/opportunity, was wondering if anyone has worked for or owned a business that used a suck truck, water digger truck before?

Pumping sewerage from tanks on a large scale.

No... That's a real 'Crappy" idea there davent..

I don't think I would like to mix the Darwin heat with Sxxx. But.. If there is a call for it.. then why not... :Y: The Hydro Excavation Method/ Stormwater Clearing is gaining momentum here in SE QLD... and you don't have to play with XXXX.... :Y: :Y:

A mate of mine owns this business Dave.

Lot more versatility in work & as LoneWolf says you don't have to play in the ****. Well not the real stuff anyway. Could be possibilities with the mining up your way - exploration drillers sludge pits, tailings, excess water, locating services etc.

Dave
My son used to look for services with a vacuum truck & gerni. He used to come filthy, they seemed to go through a fair bit of vacuum hose but they were removing dirt and rocks which is abrasive. Had a he problems with power units to drive the vacuum blowers, unfortunately that's all I remember. I think he arrives back after I leave but I will ask if he returns early.
Check the books, see if there is anybody doing the same and if you can pick their brains. Unfortunately some selling a business are very creative with accounting, look back more than 12 months, is there a slack season. best of luck.

I cart chemical to treat sewage and see these trucks in action every now and then. Passed a new one today dual steer tri axle rear if you can get one of these you'll succeed. Big bucks, up around a mil to start work all the latest gear of course you'll be busy if you have good operators. I think they have around a 4k water tank for pressure cleaning and hydro excavation then the waste tank around 10k to 15k capacity. From memory these tri axle units are around the 36 tonne gvm.

Might be over kill for your idea Dave but in the waste water game at least in Vic the latest gear gets plenty of work. I know a bloke in Bendigo who runs five trucks and is finding it hard to keep up the sewer network is expanding that quick.

For info check out "WIOA" (Water Industry Operators Association) the have annual industry days in most states and you can register to attend. If you do you'll get a heap of info ( plus free show bags with stubby holder's in them :Y:) and meet suppliers, manufacturers and service contractors of all sorts waste water gear used in all locations of your state. Not necessarily the trucks and there set up but a look into the industry and how broad it is.

If it's just sceptics you want to deal with most of the above won't apply.

Any work mucking around with drains has a heap of hidden *****. If you educt sludge you just might release enough methane (if it's there) to end up in a box. Plus any drain work would require all the appropriate qualifications and any company /contractor will have to show there qualified and competent. But before all that there's the OH&S and industry insurances that need to be put up front before any contract will be granted.

OK, the new prison I work at, stuffed the sewerage design....bad
On an average day, I see between 8 and ,12 crap trucks pump out the tanks, record so far 22 truck loads in a day. 2k a. Load.
Then other business struggle to get theirs done, because the prison has all the trucks tied up.
The port need boats done. Rural need theirs done. There is demand. I know that the prison will not change for at least 2 yes. I can get a truck 6k litre cap with 800 Lt fresh water for 67k

Around my parents suburb I used to see the bloke who drives the local septic truck leaning up against the back of the truck reading his newspaper and huffing that gas on numerous occasions, he always seemed to have a relaxed yet slightly inebriated look on his face.

That's all I know about them.

What make of truck Dave, how old, how many km's, what's the age of the pump gear on it. Any service on the pump gear is best done yourself to manage costs. We sold an Isuzu 950 with 250k on it 7 or 8 years old for 80k as a tray no tank or pump gear that was 5 years ago. The bloke who bought it has the Bendigo contract and loves it, it was a great truck. The 950 was serviced by Weststar Trucks where it was purchased. Guess what I'm trying to say is you won't get great quality for 67k imho as an operable truck.

Who's paying your bill and what's their terms, if you know other contractors how long do they wait for payment. How do you secure a contract, buying a truck doesn't always guarantee a contract. Industry compliance requirements can be and are onerous.

Sounds like a great opportunity though my Dad always said there's money in *****, to some degree he was right. Nowadays it's a whole different ball game and the bureaucratic hurdles are always changing. Have you worked for yourself before, there's no guarantees with sewer thats for sure Water Authorities are always looking to cut costs, a sign of the times I suppose.

Just at the thought bubble stage at the moment, although there is an opportunity for sure.
Will post an add of the truck shortly.

It's a good job coz you get 2 turds of the profit and all the piss you can drink

Lol,

John.

Seriously thou Dave we had to hire one of them trucks over here and it cost $1600 per hour, So there is money to be made, depending what the rates are over there, One of the worst troubles doing that job in Oz is flaming Fig Tree Roots getting in the top of the septic tank via the pipes, so you might need a 6 foot crow bar once in a while so it would pay to keep one on board and most of all make sure you have the best of PPE gear as well ( Personal Protection Equipment )

I say go for it,

John.

That's a nice looking Truck, the ones I hired didn't look that good, They have 2 or 3 of them on standby at the Wimbledon Tennis finals every year for the whole of the Tournament.

The local one up here is called the "Kuma Taxi".

I just feel bad for all those in Cooma.
