I've had a ganglion cyst in my wrist for a number of years but recently decided to take action as the pressure and pain was gradually increasing.

After a visit to the doctor to have it drained I was referred to get an ultrasound. Well, I had other thoughts and started researching home remedies. Anyway long story short I smashed that sucker with a thick parenting book and now my wrist is back to normal :D. I wish I'd done it sooner.

Unfortunately I didn't think to take a before and after photo.

Who else has done this?

I had one and did the same. LOL
It came back 6 months later. Had an operation and had it removed.
There is a risk that it could come back even then.

Yeah I read there's a risk of the cyst returning no matter which option you take. If it comes back I'll probably book it again but it comes back a third time I'll get it removed surgically.

You should see how I remove cherry angioma's, it involves a paperclip and one of those blowtorch type lighters

Smashed it with a book!! Magnificent. The pen (book) is thus mightier than the sword (scalpel). Having said all that Nugget, what would your procedure for a vasectomy be like? Smash the goolies with a copy of 'Parenting Teen-age boys'. Trust me - you wish you did when they reach that age!!

My wife had a cyst on her right hand, she said that it was caused by washing pans in hospital, nursing sister many years ago.
The doctor asked if she was religious, she replied that she was, he took the Bible off the shelf and smashed it.
Never did return.

Hmmm, I hadn't thought about how I'd perform a vasectomy, leave it with me

That's pretty much what I do. It works a treat and doesn't really hurt until you hit level with the skin, that's when you know to stop

I didn't use a book, but used to have a cyst in the middle of my back that started to cause some back pain when it increased in size. I did get it checked out, and was going to get it drained, but left it for a few more months before taking action. I needn't have worried, as when I was away for work, and doing some morning stretches, I heard a loud pop. Turns out the contents of the cyst had exploded from my back, and hit the wall on the opposite side of the room - talk about being under pressure, and none too pleasant smell as well (you can reach for the sick bag now).

Thankfully I have not had too much of an issue since, strange how the human body works. :)

I had one of those too, but brain surgery fixed it........ After the brain surgery I was paralysed down one side, could not use my Right hand for a few months and the ganglion in my wrist vanished. Right hand is still not the best but the ganglion never returned.

Caused me grief for years that thing, so I know how painful they are.

Don't get brain surgery to fix a ganglion though. :| I don't reccomend it. :D

Yep the age old remedy to fix that was the big family bible.
I had 1 in my wrist and 1 day running up stairs I tripped and when I landed it was gone hehe

I always enjoy reading about DIY Doctor jobs or home remedies.....especially ones that work.

One that has stuck with me since nan was still alive is 'Vicks on the sole of your feet to cure that annoying cough'.
Especially for the kids at night time when they are in bed.

Works an absolute treat, say good bye to the cough.

You oughta see what I can do with a pair of long nose pliers and a bit of string. PMSL...

For some reason back in 1998 I got several (one after another) where my thumbs join to my wrists. I didn't know what to do about it until one day I accidentally bumped one of them and it burst. After a couple of weeks they'd come back and then I'd burst them again. This went on for about six months then stopped. Just a passing phase in my life I guess. As far as I know they are just little sacs of salty water so they won't kill. Some are worse than others though and I do know people who have had them seen to by a surgeon.
