gday, was wondering if anyone has FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE with mods done these guys.

I want to clearly state, that I DO NOT WANT TO READ REPLIES from people who "have a mate who..." or I "I know a bloke who....." I really only want to hear from blokes who have spent a bit, and what their experience is.

I like the sound of the front end gain and the variable frequency.

Please don't turn this into a bagging out session.

Dave.

Don't know why I cant edit this?

Anyway, just wanted to add that I am aware that minelab wont touch modded detectors etc, just wanted to know if anyone has had the work done, and give an honest opinion, thanks!

Hi Davent I don't know what sort of detector you have but I have a F1A4 level 3 with gain and timing mods I can say the mods work great definitely gained some depth and sensitivity I run a 14x9 evo and she runs sweet .

I think there's a time limiit in regards to editing a post.

I have a detector that was originally modified by DetectorMods.

I will PM you

I have a GP extreme with 4 mods. Done by detectormods ,extra sensitive 2, shallow, medium and deep and the Smooth setting as the GP is known for its chattering
Plus ground tracking on the handle too
Running a 14x9 evo on the week end at Hill End it ran that smooth and quiet I had to throw the pick under the coil a few times to make sure it was still running
As for depth I was picking up the smallest lead shot and tinny bits of iron at around 6,8,and 10 inches easily with loud clear signals
All I can say it I'm extremely impressed by how this older machine runs with the mods and so were the guys with me that witnessed it working ,
I actually had to move 15 ft away from them as it was upsetting their machines that bad ,one a standard GP Extreme and a GPZ 7000

Anyone had a mod done to a 4500? I was told mods to earlier minelabs like the sd's and gp's were ok but waste of money on the gpx. Of course would be interested to know if that's incorrect

If you get Woody (Detector Mods) to do anything make sure he provides full instructions on how to use the mods. Getting information after the fact has proved difficult to say the least!

One trusted/respected modder believes modding a GPX isn't necessary & says so on his website. I'd try to contact Ismael http://www.minelabmods.com/joomla3/
He'll most likely give you the not for profit opinion?

thanks for the replies, but PLEASE, only reply if YOU have or HAD a modded detector, I don't want to sound rude, but I don't want to hear 2nd,or 3rd hand info, or this guy is better etc, im asking about detector mods, by people who have or still owned and used one.

Sorry I hadn't realised that the threads can now be exclusive
That info above re: getting blood out of a stone oops I mean getting info out of Woody is first hand experience. It's like he doesn't want us to know what the mods he did actually do? It's the reason the machine in question has sat unused in a cupboard for years whilst the former owner purchased & had much success with a bog stock GPX5000!
We'll work it out ourselves (with the help provided by some forum members) & if/when I get a first hand chance to see it in action or use it I'll give a first hand report on it - on my own exclusive thread :p The journey hasn't started well!

Probly just let it run free for all an sift through for the exact info you need ,... otherwise it could be like using handcuffs on Godzilla ,... but in reverse.

sorry mate, i know it sounds bad, and i did ask it to be the way it is for a reason, which Ill try to explain.
Ive been doing a bit of research into the mods. I asked on another forum about the mods, and it turned really ugly with 2 sides bagging the crap out of each other, which I dont want to be the cause of, I just want to know peoples experience with the mods, before I consider it.
The way Woody explains it, they sound really feasible, and probably worthwhile depending on the cost. Then you get other people (guests) sometimes who really get personal about it, and it turns rude to a point that I could see friendships burnt over some comments.

Thanks for the info you have provided BTW, the mods Im interested in are the pulse timings and the front end gain.
From what I can gather, the stock gain and stab are set to 1, then the front end gain is worked in with the timings....or something like that, apparently the results on small gold are very good, and big gold are noticeably better for depth.

But I want to hear from people who have the mods done, not from people who have an allegiance to people who dislike the bloke who does the mods, and Im not suggesting anyone here is, but I would like to hear actual results, rather than hearsay.

Sorry Mbasko, if I have offended you with the exclusive post, definitely no mean to.

No offence taken & I can see your point. I'm actually looking forward to seeing how this machine goes myself (the one that's been hidden in a cupboard). It's a GP3500 so I'll be able to compare it to how my old stock GP3500 ran if/when I get the chance.

Hi Dave, I have been through the 'upgrade or not' conundrum about this time last year. 'woody's upgrades to 4500' and this thread deteriorated into a discussion about coils. I had at the time direct personal contact with 2 operators with 45's with woody's upgrades and my deep test targets that had been in the ground for about 4 years. After nearly 6 weeks of tossing up between an upgrade , a gpz or an elite coil I chose to go the coil. I am comfortable with my decision and have improve my gold success rate and the other options are still there if I want. If you want to know my full thoughts in making this decision, pm me. cheers mark.

Hi Davent, Well i speak for my self, My first mod by woody 2010 on gp extreme, 2005 i found a 7.61 ounce nugget at 10 inches max i can now hear that nugget at 38 inches, with mods small gold 0.05gram 6 inch, took a while to work it , i now have my 5000 full mod by woody front end gain the lot, still getting the hang of it but run very smooth very deep, As far as saying woody dont give info detectormod forum is full of imfo plus heaps of youtube movies on testing the upgrades, As far as minelab not repair modded detectors no worries woody does them, I speak for my self its ones one decision for me it was worth while, Ron.

Ron you say you found the nugget at 10" but after the mods can now hear it at 38" Did you try to get a max depth on it before the mods for comparison as a 280% increase is a little hard to swallow! If the mods were realising that on a consistent basis I think we'd be hearing more positive stories on these mods?
Woody had asked me for the former owners name in order to give me info on the machine - haven't heard from him since. My mate was told he would put the info on his forum - last time we spoke he was still waiting? I did a quick search & can't find any info on the mods on there? No offence but I don't trust his, or for that matter a lot of comparison YouTube videos, - he will never put something up that isn't showing his mods in a good light. It wouldn't be good business sense to do so.
As for doing Minelab repairs he may be able to do some but for a lot of issues he won't be able to. Minelab, as far as I'm aware, will now not sell parts to anyone anymore so PCB's etc. let go then you'll be out of luck unless he has a wrecking yard of GPX's there for spares? The "warranty" he offers is on his mods only - your Minelab warranty (if any) is voided!
I've got no doubt that some people have success with these mods but I know not everyone does.
Sorry Davent but I felt that some of the statements in Ron's post were in response to my post or aimed at my comments so replied. I will leave it at that now.

So when the minelab warrenty runs out, or if your machine has been modded, will minelab do service or repairs on a nodded machine if you pay?
Having worked in retail for a few years, warrenty only covers manufacturing faults, and if your machine worked great for 11 months, then played up, its hard to argue its the manufactures fault.
Warrenty is not an issue on anything I buy 2nd hand, most are not worth the paper they are printed on.

So as much about it is about how good the mods are the question is who is capable of dealing with a modded machine?
I think the mod guy should be able to diagnose and repair it but you need to ask the guy personally
If the mod is what your going to go for
Would go on if he can get minelab parts
My thought was your worried about owning a machine that can't be repaired if it farts itself
