Having had a knee replacement, I am looking to build a stand for my GPX so that I don't have to kneel in the near future. Most similar patients (or those with sore backs hate kneeling).
Actually, I'm a little surprised that some of the detector companies haven't thought of this already. Why do we have to put our detectors flat on the ground following unearthing a find?
The concept is that when you've unearthed your target you put your detector on the ground but raise the coil by around 0.4m or so, so you can run your retrieved samples over it whilst standing (or not bending excessively with a sore back).
My concept is below. During detecting the equipment's legs would fold back and be simply clipped to the main shaft. When set down, the legs would be quickly folded down against simple stops which would prevent further forward movement. All plastic construction. The Y piece is from either a sand tent peg or a star picket (yes they make them from both durable plastics composites).
I plan to use a flat bottomed scoop (like those blue ones that you use for beach detecting, and use your pick to scrape directly into the scoop.
Would appreciate any comments etc.
