Finally doing what I've always wanted to do, dig in the dirt.
Son-in-law got a GPX5000 'bout 6 months ago, been out a bare handful of times, around Dunolly, and found a few little bits of the yellow. I went with him, one trip, and scored a nice little 1.4g. I was stoked. He wasn't. Promptly relegated the 5000 to the shed, where it languished, 'til a couple of days ago. Then my daughter, may God bless her forever more, got the machine and passed it to yours truly . To say I was gobsmacked is the understatement of the century. I've coupled this machine to a Coiltek 14" X 9" Goldstalker mono and hope it'll be a winning combo. Was out in the Bendigo forest today, logical choice for me as I live in Bendigo, to give the 5000 a whirl. Came home with a pouch fulla junk but pleased that I was pulling stuff like slug gun pellets and bits of shot. Went down 'bout 2 feet for what turned out to be a fairly large bullet, something like a .44. No yellow stuff, yet, but I reckon research, research, persistance and a huge dollop of luck then just maybe.
Anyway, got a great toy to play with (gotta get my head around all the controls) and, having been pensioned off, plenty of time to wander 'round the scrub. Really looking forward to the new hobby and hope to meet a heap of new mates. Cheers
