I'm heading over for a wedding in bali at the end of the year and was wondering if it would be possible to hunt on the beaches over there. Is it legal and would i need some sort of fossicking licence? Would i be given a full-cavity search in customs or something? Has anyone taken their machine overseas?

From what I have read on other forums it is legal but expect to be hassled.

Also, better of discussing legal requirements in a particular country with the embassy of that country and best to get it in writing!

Yeah i hear you get pestered by beach merchants constantly, that plus legalities and damage in transit it might not be worth the grief

There would have to be some major Dutch history stuff in the 'East Indies'

Can't argue with that but don't really want to be schappelle's bunk buddy either ;) lol

Just had a look on the Minelab website, they have two dealers listed in Indonesia which means that it is not illegal. But that doesn't answer the permit or licence aspect.

I had a bit of a search and it was suggested that bureaucratic channels will get a 'no' answer because they will be concerned for portable antiquity requirements but if you contact the hotel you'll be staying at you'll get better info...

I certainly wouldn't be taking a great detector over. A good place for a Bounty Hunter Tracker IV

[Topic cleaned up, amusing but getting a bit off track ]
