Hi guys Im new to this and bought a Minelab GPX 5000 from an old timer whos giving it up (serial all checked out).

Just wondering what is your suggestion for coil preference around the Bendigo region, either mono or double and why?

For the record I sold my bike to get the metal detector and my girlfriend thinks I've gone from stupid to crazy haha

Cheers
Alistair

Hi Alistair welcome at least with detecting you can pay for your hobby.
Just use the 11 mono that came with the detector fill in your holes, I would not think about buying another coil for some time get to know the detector regards john :)

Check out Minelab Golds post and videos.

Mono is always good.
Practice first find your targets then decide on coil never rush.

Dont forget to say hello if we meet in the bush I am out most weekends around Bendigo
And yes fill in your holes and we will get along just fine :)

Good luck it is a great hobby.

Welcome am6mcintosh...Bendigo is a mix of shallow and deep ground, and if you only have the 2x 11" coils, learn to run your 5K on the mono...it is a good 'all rounder' coil for patch hunting across shallower ground, but this is usually around reefs and surfacing anyway...you will find bread & butter pieces and an odd bigger bit if you research right.

That's not to say the 11" DD is no good..on the contrary, especially in super hot ground, but there isn't much of that in my experience with the 4K in Bendigo for approx. 7 yrs.

Otherwise i'd propose either a NF 17"x10"/11"/13" Eliptical, or a 14" NF or CT Round coil of choice as a decent all round prospecting coil....should you begin to find bigger deeper bits, they will pay for a larger yet coil for even deeper bits...imo.

ymmv.. :Y:
