i have used warm water, i didn't notice much difference apart from being alot more comfortable on the hands vs the cold water i normally have in the panning tub, i will add tho it was freezing outside so i may have been home alone with a beer sitting in my nice warm lounge room with a tarp on the floor and the panning tub, cleaning cons

That's taking a risk jamie. If you have a partner that's either very, very brave or incredibly stupid. I reckon i'd be sleeping rough for a few nights if i was caught doing that in the lounge room.

Sorry for the hijack but do you put anything in the water eg detergent?
I only ask as panning some Cons today i got from Tom and have noticed some very micro gold floating?

yes a little dish washing liquid helps with the surface tension of the water and stop gold floating out the pan

And Scrounger, if i got caught i was a dead man but she was in Tassie for two weeks so i won that one! lol

Yea warm water is the go mate, just on comfort reasons alone .

I have noticed anything in the slightest regarding the actual effectiveness wether cold or hot water.

And Fjute,

Yea a small amount, and very small amount of detergent should stop it from floating but if you put to much you can't see due to bubbles.

There is also proper solution that can be purchased from prospecting suppliers that doesn't cause bubbles.

I found generally having extra water in the pan so that when you spin the pan or what ever motion you use, you don't allow the gold to come out of the water and let that surface tension occur .

Finish rinse aid. Aka jet dry as the Yanks say.
Yep I got some rinse aid. I have seen a couple of verrrrrrrry little specks, but they move around in the pan a bit, I dunno if it's light gold cos it's small or pyrite. Looks gold in colour. I'm thinking I need to go thru the tailings cos the hibanker coulda had better water flow, and even after running it thru the wheel I'm not seeing gold in the cup, some gems mostly rocks, I need to classify it more b4 it goes thru that. Might have a look at it tonite I reckon Kman.

Hey Chewy, generally if the yellow stuff swishes around in the pan with slow water movement it's Mica which has a goldish colour to it also, gold will not move with the water and a slow movement. If you get a dry spot without water in your pan and there is flour gold in that spot a lot of the time when you move water back onto the tiny specks and fine black sand the stuff will almost immediately float on top of the water.

Mica will move with the water even larger flakes of Mica will too, some places are full of the stuff.
