Can you classify when the rocks are not soaking wet but wet and muddy and sticky or will you lose to much gold sticking to the rocks?

At the very least if you are leaving 10% of your pay dirt stuck to rocks you'll lose the same amount of your gold.

Definitely wet. Make sure you break up any clay and wash all of it off the rocks etc. You'd be surprised how much flour gold you'll catch. Bonus: you'll be able to easily see any gems or crystals in the classifier

I don't usually classify. I just clean it all in a pan. I'm going with a mate to a muddy area and he wants to classify and my thought was he was going to leave half the gold up there

Need to make a Sieve bucket to wash all the rocks in, then tip the classifyed and washed material into your pan. Tip the washed rock from the sieve into another bucket for inspection ; re wash . Look in Do It Yourself for sieve bucket instructions.
Cheers
