G'day all, am just curious if anyone has tried to recycle the gold in old computers/mobile phones using various chemical recovery methods and if so how did you go about it? I've seen a number of videos on YouTube using chemical methods, I found them to be interesting, but the process looks like it could be a little nasty possibly even dangerous.
Are there any other ways of recycling the parts without using chemicals? Cheers

Thanks ramjet, just found the vids interesting, wasn't planning on trying it, the words acid and fumes were enough to scare me off, just found it interesting that it can be done and was curious if any one had tried it.
it would be more fun out finding gold then sitting around pulling apart old computers anyway. Cheers

I am interested in this as well ,Ramjet . However , the risks are only part of the problem ... what about the government beurocracy , the fees for disposal of unwanted materials ? etc .... perhaps I will look into this ....

You will have to get some old computer gear that is hard to find. Also the old rear projection television sets had some gold in them. Good luck finding your nugget that way. :D
