Charters Towers hopeful

Gday fellow prospectors I'm Josh and i have only just begun prospecting. I was wondering what the Charters Towers area was like and the type of gold i could expect or hope to find. Should i be detecting or panning in this region? I have a Gold Monster 1000 and pans. I know there is a public prospecting area but i have access to other locations in the district. Most of the Gold in Charters Towers was mined underground in the boom times and i'd like to know if i'm likely to find gold just detecting and panning.
