After losing Friday's detecting to heavy rain, spent all day Saturday in several spots around Creswick.

Spot #1 was a series of gullies, very likely area that is reported to have been well gone over. Found 1 tiny lead shot at around 8" deep, and a part of a nail which was in the top 2". We were there quite a while. Should have spent longer, but wanted to look at other places of interest.

Spot #2 was a gold bearing gully which was heavily overgrown. With the knowledge of deep hidden holes & the overgrowth, we decided to leave it.

Spot #3 had many deep shafts (see pics at the end). These went a long way down, but were easy to spot. A quick detect turned up no finds.

Spot #4 saw 2 excavator teeth, nails & leadshot over a short area.

Cannot wait to get back to spot #1 for a much longer detect as it shows a lot of great ground. Sounds like a job for the GPX5000 next time out.

Need some sort of tripod elevator system.... or at least a bright torch mounted phone to lower down for a video look next time :Y:

Must be the crap Samsung phone camera Silver.

Clear as day when I was looking down the holes but damned if the pictures would show it.

Some of those were 30m plus deep. Not something you would want to fall into.

Wish I had more time to take more pics. Losing the previous day due to that huge rain band severely impacted our detecting time. We placed more emphasis on detecting as much as possible. When I return to spot #1 I will get pics of the gullies. It is almost like a kind of maze there are so many.

Nice photos fwdoz ....... just my 2 bobs worth and not sure of the surrounding area but would suggest that if the shafts were that deep your chances of finding gold would be severely reduced. Then again I've half heartedly detected deep ground (based on the shaft depth) and snagged a tiny SDC sized piece but that's the exception rather than rule ....... sick to shallow (shallower) ground.

Hence why I want to go back to spot #1 Teemore. Decent gullies where shallow gold has frequented. The fact that we only had the 2 hits suggest it has been well detected, but we barely scratched the surface in the time we had there.

The deep shafts were more of an interesting find. We just detected the mounds in case they left something behind.
