Today I went for another drive around the Tallarook ranges. Because of the amount of coffee I drink was busting for leak and more looking for a place to stop. Came to a bridge that had a side road so I ducked off down this little road and emptied. After that I thought I might as well check the creek out that went under the bridge and liked what I saw.

Grabbed the shovel and the pan and chose a random spot in the middle of the creek behind what looked like someones little dam wall. That 1 pan showed nice colour so I thought ide set up the HB and just go for it. Sluiced for about 4 hours and went home to clean out.

Ended up with 0.8grams for my run so heading back in the morning for my birthday to see if I can break the gram in a day barrier

The yella

That's a great story, and one sexy photo. That camera must have a bloody good lens lovely detail, either that or the yellow was "working it". Nice early Bday present, looks like a top spot from what you got out. If your ever in need of a digging buddy send a holler. I'll shout the Icebreaks.

Well done, that's some might nice looking gold there 8). Best of luck tomorrow, I'll be looking forward to an update.

P.S. Happy Birthday for tomorrow :D

Thanx GT, yeah **** hot camera through a magnifying glass with a small halogen lamp real close does the trick and then I just crop it. I was actually surprised I got that much cause there are tailings from other prospectors everywhere. I just picked a spot that looked the least worked, dug down into a big crevice in the slate and found clay in it(love clay  ).

Something new, everywhere ive found gold so far, black sand has allways been present. this spot produced barely 1 table spoon from my whole clean out...?????

Creek is about 1 foot deep, exposed slate crevices upstream are clean as a wistle. Down stream looks unworked and im thinking thats cause there is no track through the blackberrys and slate isn't exposed.(if its hard its good is my theory)

Will go down stream in the morning and do some sampling, if no good im door knockin the surrounding propertys for sure.

Clay = gold if its around. My spot here in Bendigo for 2x3g white clay intrusion. Then my 6g day you guessed it white clay intrusion (completely different area and source) puddling up is tough work but time and again it pays.

I have designed an enclosed environment with no moving parts that in theory should deal with the clay problem legally. got a nice big sheet of 8mm thick transparent acrylic up in Qld waiting for the protyping to begin. if this thing works it just attaches on a hinge above the HB hopper

Happy Birthday 20X

Look forward to seeing an update on how you go today, sounds like you found a great spot

Cheers

happy bday mate! that gold there looks the goods by its character id say its been flushed out of some nice fine bedrock its all flat and mangled. upstream there may be a fresh seam thats just opened up ready to share the love. hope you cracked your gram on your bday.

Thanx everyone ey...had a good day today, went downstream a bit and the creek just ended up parallel with the foliation and not much colour at all. sampled someone elses tailings and got a bit of colour so I sluiced it

After that I setup again to attack the next crevice below yesterdays. Had to move so much rock to get down to the fines in the crevice, the whole section is um a bit un-recignisable now

Crevices are pretty much clay down deep and consisted of orange,a bit of white and real sticky grey.
Highbanking it isn't very efficient without breaking it down first but I sluiced it anyway.

Could be some better gold wedged down in the tight pinches of the bedrock I reckon.

5 hours straight flat bicky and it would have come down to a shovel full between breaking the gram barrier and not

Finally got a digit to the left of the decimal...just

Haha that's the only way to do it! There's only one way to bedrock.

Tallarook is a neat little town, always got a ripper hamburger from the folks that use to run the general store but they moved on a few years ago now, never thought of prospecting that area though! Good thinking on your behalf.

I've only ever poked around the other side of the freeway done ok but never great. Much like what you've found, nearly zero black sand. I think the best day I ever did was about 0.8g and less than a tablespoon of black sand, a far cry to what I'm use to at Beechworth \ Eldorado.

Hi mate, im thinking...on the outside bend of this spot there is a 4m verticle bank showing many different clay and wash layers.
About 50m in the same direction there is a approx. 20m cliff face where the bedrock had broken perfectly for some distance along its foliation.

Im thinking a long time ago before the bridge was put in that the original creek direction was against the cliff. Im wondering if sampling each layer of the verticle outside bank could give me clues as to how long ago the bedrock upstream has been shedding and also a clue as to how high up out of the creek its all coming from.

thoughts??
