With the arrival of the new toy on monday I finally decided to give it a go. I spent the past few afternoons reading up on it and watching YouTube vids on how to use it and I was on my way.
I dont own a pinpointer and I need to hone up my pin pointing skills so I just had a quick go on the soft mulch around the swing sets.
First place I tried was under the monkey bars. I had it in all metal mode just to see what I get. First target was a $2 coin within 5 seconds of swinging. Suddenly I got excited and started to think I was going to get rich. Lol.
But that was it. The rest of the targets were bottle caps, tin foil, a button and a pull tab.
It was interesting to hear the different sounds for different targets and see the target id's. Wont be long until im only digging up the good stuff ;)
Thank you Prospecting Australia for giving me the chance to win such a fantastic toy. Cant wait till I find that 1930's penny ;)

Looks like you be rich soon. that 705 will pay for itself in no time :D The Penny is just under the next monkey bars :)

Those bottle top and pull tabs are going to be your worst enemy. Lot of bottle caps will sound like goldies and pull tabs like 20c. Silver foil is not problem it will sound 6 or less. Have a fun.

Thanks Karl. Didnt take me long to start ignoring the -8's to 6's. Particularly if you find a patch that was hit with a mower lol.

LoL I picked up small pair of gold ear ring that were only a 4 in a park with mine. Bottle caps are easy to ignore back away from target while swinging and they will change form 32 to either 46-48 or a minus were a $2 will stay 32 until out of range. ring pull is normal 16 but older complete one's can be 20 or 24.
I often do ignore those lower signal and would of at the location of gold ear ring if I didn't see the glint of gold.
Non of us are right all the time. LOL

In sydney this weekend to visit fionas mum. Oh what a fun filled few days it has been
To help pass the time I decided to bring the detector for the trip and ducked out of the house for an hour yesterday. Didnt take any digging tools so I just went strait for the mulch around the swings and monkey bars. At least I can Just shift the ground with just my foot.
For the time there I got $2.05c, a broken fake ear ring, a used slug gun pellet and the usual rubbish.
Not much but sure beats watching telly while fi and her mum catch up.

That works well with stock coil, but I'm using 6" coil. Goldies will ring anything from 30 to 36. Some Screw tops will give you solid 32 or 34 from all directions giving you no choice but to dig.

Im just using the gold coil for now. Im thinking if I start doing some serious coin and relic hunting I will need to get a different coil.
This coil seems to work fine for me for now, the ear ring came us as a 6 and the 5cent come up as a 8.
I have been using the preset option no 4 lately. Do you guys bother with the pre set options? Or do you leave it in all metal?

Hi Greglz86

I usually leave mine in preset 4 whilst out in the parks and find it a good setting to use.

After a while, you learn to discriminate on the tone solely, but I still view the screen (sort of a 'just in case thing', I think).

Keep looking and having fun!! :) :)

Cheers Monty

I'm using all metal mode all the time. Parks around here are extremely trashy and I'm using small coil. Discrimination mode doesn't work well for very closely spaced trash good targets with this coil.

Great too see members having fun with the x-terra 705, i am still using the coin default factory settings, i have tried small changes, ie different mode and tones nothing to flash, still a lot to learn but loving it. Here are my weekend finds. All junk but got to start some where.
