In honour of my first ever silver coin today I thought I'd start a tread about silver coins in general.

I know a lot of you guys are coin guys, but everyone loves an aesthetically pleasing coin.

This thread is dedicated to your favorite coin or coins design, weather you own it or not! I'll start it off with these two

The Aussie florin with kangaroo and lion, obviously signifies the link between England and Australia.
Being half English myself this coin speaks to me, I think it's an awesome coin I wish to find one day

And this US half dollar is just mean looking

I don't mind a nice Spanish reale either :p

I find the reichsmark coins extremely powerful. Obviously it has a swastika which for the world is now days a symbol of pure evil and of the atrocities committed by the Reich. Interestingly it has von Hindenburg on the reverse instead of hitler who was already fuhrer by this time.

I'm sure most of us have family who faught in the war against this evil. I don't deny the history, but I don't glorify it either.

Here's my first and still favourite silver I found while gold detecting at Wattle Flat.

Funny how I've got a modest coin collection but never really took to coin detecting although some known historic sites could get the interest up no doubt.
I'd love to be finding silvers (or real goldies) like that on the goldfields Heatho rather than the usual buttons 'n' buckles

I know what you mean mate, I'd never really had a coin collection, then I found that shilling at the end of a long detecting session with no gold, I thought the coin was actually better than a small nug.

Now I'm always keen to get some silvers, I'll have to get some of my nice coins mounted.

Dunno about specifically looking for coins in the goldfields either but normally they would be a bycatch from prospecting I guess. Though I reckon getting out with a CTX specifically looking for soveriegns could be fun. :Y:
