Had a go at all accessible beaches from Lakes Entrance to Phillip Island in the 1980s. It was a contest between the wife and I to see who was the first to hit the $100 for the day. The only beach that I know of now that is off limits is Inverloch as it is a shell fish reserve. Nowadays a lot of small change is not around due the use of Card Transactions.
And phone transactions and smart watch transactions.
Any beach where people are likely to go is worthwhile. Pick your times after a bit of rough weather may have eroded sand levels and before they build up again.
Have been to beaches with a back wall where a storm surge has left old pennies just laying on the surface to pick up even before the detector hit them.
Maybe even also its a bit like prospecting and sometimes worth taking a chance and picking an unlikely beach which may have been popular before modern times.
