Hi Everyone I am hoping to detect areas around where the welcome nugget was found and I am hoping you would help the newbies and I out and tell us if you have had any luck with locations on this map.. regards GC ;)

Nice try cobber :/ .... but in reality you're 160 years too late - all the land is encumbered in some way, if not private freehold then it'll be reserved local government or crown land so they'll not be letting you dig holes to uncover the leads again. The Welcome Nugget was found at a depth of nearly 200 feet from memory (google will know)

Welcome Nugget

This massive 68 kilo (150 lbs.) gold "boulder" was discovered by a group of miners in the Ballarat gold fields in Victoria, Australia on 9 June 1858.

The first two miners to see the nugget fainted at the sight of it.

At the time it was the largest single piece of natural gold ever found. A little over a year later, the nugget was melted down by the London mint to make gold coins, but models were made beforehand to create replicas like the one seen here. At around 2,217 troy ounces (69 kg), it remains the second largest gold nugget ever found. Because of their scarcity, large nuggets always fetch a price well above their value as precious metal.

In 2013, the Welcome Nugget's gold content alone would be valued at nearly $4 million, but an actual specimen of this size and purity would sell for many times this amount.

Thanks for the info its a very interesting read especially for newbies and myself a like, I just uploaded a 2nd map that has the location for the Canadian Nugget weighing 1619 Ozs and the Lady Hotham nugget weighing in at 1177 Ozs if anyone is curious.. Cheers GC

I went to sovereign hill not long ago the red hill mine was cool, it goes down 1000 ft plus. Most of the gold in that area is deep lead gold but im curious as to where they found the Canadian and the Lady Hotham nugget from sovereign hill.
