So far so good slow flow
Will know more once I get home to the lab
The test pans were really good
Miss Mud Guts in one hog pan worth got 13 pieces from a test area

Yes BC we were checking for black sand blowout
We found that there was a few bits of black
But no gold in the tests we did
So I am one very happy lad :D

Why am I not surprised that nothing got through SIX METERS of sluice

That's not unlike the long toms that the old boys used back in the day.

What was the clean out time like?

Just got home so I will process the cons tomorrow
I am really looking forward to seeing what it caught

Nice build there mudguts cant go past expanded metal. Only comment I would make is there doesnt look like enought water and velocity flowing through that box to get the expanded cleaning and catching effectively. Ive been running predominately expanded in all my equipment for over a year and ive found fast flat water works best. Probably twice as fast as your running in that vid. Can't hurt to test anyway :)

Bet you get some looks down the creek with that woppa!!!

I agree goldigger
The water volume was at the bottom of what it could take
The top box was fully active in each cell, rotating and dancing
And had a defined empty run on each low section
Found lots of flour gold had made the trip to the V mat under the moss
Along with copious amounts of the dredded black sand
The header is a all rounder with the grizzly shown and a differant grizzly set up for clay areas as well
I will cut a smaller size expanded mesh for Oallen similar to section 3 as I have retained a exesive amount of blonde sand
Like everyone on here I am constantly improving and changing as it is half the fun of this hobby
Thanks for your input :D

as per goldigga post above . more water depth required over the mats

6 metres ?

why not . do whatever the hell makes you happy

experiment away to your hearts content

one tip though,

you might do this already but i take turns with pick then shovel

loosen the top 4 - 6 inches with a pick first over say a square metre , then shovel it out and do the pick again when there is nothing left to shovel

:D

Very true mate
We were just starting at that stage
Once we have the bench stated we strike the top with the shovel and it falls in nice and loose
It is much Easier
I was running 8degrees what do you guys run with a higher water volume
The black sand was visible along with some nice gold at the shutdown before cleanup
The shallow angle might be shy I retained so much blonde sand
Dunno will need more beer and time to find that out

goldhog recommend 8 - 9 degrees

mckirks run an inch per foot for a starting point ( = 4.76564636464565465645 degrees roughly )

hungarian or clarkson riffles can be anywhere from 5 degrees to 18 degrees depending on what union the water belongs to

nah seriously it depends on the design , depth and spacing of riffles

bottom line ;

if the blondes are shooting out the end and at least some of the black sand is staying as a reference , if youre not shooting thin flakes of gold out the end and the riffles are clearing fast enough , then your slope is okay.

if the riffles are blocking up 90 % of their depth and you feel youre waiting too long for clearing , then experiment with more water or slope until you feel its right

and the answers you find in the field will be better than mine ;)
