Hey everyone

My name is Nick, im from SA and after a year of following this forum im making my first post.. so please, go easy on me lol.

I was just wondering who on here has detected or panned up around the wadnaminga goldfield here in SA? I have access to a large property that borders the goldfield and am wanting to know what indicators i should be looking out for or just any other advice people could share with me. Everything i have read about the place sounds pretty promising however as i am yet to find my first nugget im not getting my hopes up.

Thanks in advance
Nick

Welcome to the Forum Nick,

The Wadnaminga area has quite a few active exploration and mining leases on it - I would suggest you really do your homework before heading there as the current leaseholders are rightly protective of their interests.

I have seen some really nice gold come from the mines there and also some really nice mineral specimens and crystals.

Don't forget to put the S.A. Metal Detecting Championship into your diary it is held on Sunday 3rd May 2015 at the Palmer Oval, Collier Park, Palmer S.A.
The Palmer Rockarama Crystal & Craft fair is also held at the same place over the 1st, 2nd & 3rd May.

For details & registration forms http://www.murraylandsgmc.org.au/rockarama.html

There are really great prizes for the metal detecting comp. In past years Minelab have donated their latest detectors as prizes and this year are also supporting the competition.

G'day Nick,
Lived in SA for 25 years and didn't get into gold until we moved away.

If you have free access to the property, just get out there and swing mate.
Look at maps to see where the property abuts the known goldfields. If there are any known diggings on or near the property swing around them.
Look for the classic rock signs, dirty old quartz (clean white quartz is not a good indicator) ironstone is also usually present.

In WA I found areas that had all the classic indicators ..old workings, salt n' pepper (literally fields by the acre of small decayed quartz and ironstone, plus greenstone & yellowstone ..swung the wand around there for days with no result. Then, when walking back to the car got a target in a field of sand with none of the above, and turned up a 2.5 grammer. Over the next couple of days I pulled another half dozen nuggets from that unlikey area.

Gold is where you find it.
If you're fortunate enough to have access to private property, just get out there and do it.
Good luck
