Just wondering if anyone else has a particular detecting spot/area that is a nemesis?
Mines Hill End - detected gold all around it Turondale, Windeyer, Hargraves but can't crack it for a bit there. Not through lack of trying, been detecting out there on numerous trips over nearly 18 months, used 3 different machines too.
Spent this weekend camped out there with a mate & we came across a great looking spot. All the ingredients, surfaced area, shallow diggings, worked gullies & no obvious signs of recent detecting. I thought that was it, today I beat my nemesis, but alas the ghosts of Hill End had the last laugh again. I did manage a few things of interest - musket ball, button & a copper clip long broken from something that maybe would have been nice + the usual pile of rubbish & heaps of shotgun pellets (reinforcing to us that this spot has been lightly detected) but still no gold.
Lucky I am optimistic & want to be thorough as I will return again to try & conquer the place - or at least get one little Hill End nugget to prove I can find gold out there. :D
Oh well back to the drawing board I guess & for next week onto a different area. Hopefully it doesn't become a nemesis too.

Yes Mbasko, I too get those days - ghosts laughing as I'm leaving with full bag of rubbish but the sun has to come up one day and shine. Good luck on your next trip to Hill End

Yep for me its the Whipstick in Bendigo. Been there 1/2 dz times and never a sniff. Its a hot place too and my coil never behaves. That's my nemesis for sure!! 8.(

2nd the whipsticks found a spot on the way home one day that was sure to pay now can't find it!

As frustrating as it is I still love the place too. The history, the bush, the old buildings, the serenity  .
I'll definitely keep trying & like you say Joe the sun will (or gold :D ) will shine one day.

Hi mbasko, Yeah HE can be a bu##er of a spot. I have sat around the campfire with mates saying we are never coming back to the place and we are going to find somewhere else. However gold does turn up and some unlikely decent patches have been found in the last two years. Keep at it. If you want to detect with someone in HE and you are heading up one weekend drop me a PM.

No worries - might be a few weeks before I get back there. Thinking about Sofala/Wattle Flat this weekend if the rain stays away. I haven't done much around there but have been wanting to at least check it out some more for awhile. Hill End & me need sometime to work through our issues I think. Sofala/Wattle Flat might be in the same book by this time next week

All goldfields are a nemesis to me right now, finding every other target except Gold. Wattle flat gave up an 1846 Shilling to me but not much else over about 5 visits. Gotta put in some more hours and dig some more junk and maybe a nugget will come out soon. Looking at hitting some of the crown land along the Turon next and a few spots around Oberon.

Anyway I met a nice bloke at Inverell who lives right near Stuart Town and has found a fair bit, hoping to catch up with him soon for a swing and a few pointers.

Good luck at WF Mat, a lot of patience will be required, plenty of junk there.

Not detecting, but Dead Dog Creek. The old timers took a massive amount out in hydraulic sluicing but after crevicing, washing, digging and sampling still nothing, not a speck, not a hint. Its become a must do mission, i have these visions of grams being pulled out while I'm not there by passing grey nomads....its become my Everest.

After not being able to make the Hill End weekend, due to having fatherly duties, myself & Beep went out today for a mini forum trip
I finally snagged a couple of bits too.
1 x 0.2 & 1x 0.23 - small but very nice & a long time coming for me at Hill End. Hopefully the finds out there snowball now :p

Detector used today - SDC2300
