AFL - With a completely on-going compromised draft, extra $$ for tickets to blockbusters (MCG only), propping up nonsense teams, subsidising interstate expansion teams (also read compromised draft), food and drink prices, packed trains and trams, ridiculous scheduling, football communism (we are all equal) - anyone else had enough and starting to switch back more and more to the VFL? There are some cracking games, you can watch the new draft and rookie players and also players coming back from injury. Plus, some of the grounds are free. Victoria Park is free to get into. You can then watch the old traditional teams have a crack. Collingwood versus Essendon was a beauty. Today (6/7/2014) for example, Collingwood is playing the filths team (Northern Blues AKA Preston) out at Preston. Should be a good game -the pies are bringing back injured players through the VFL. I don't think they will ever split from the AFL like the old VFA/VFL days but gee it would be good to watch. Watch those creeps at AFL House squirm next TV license negotiation if the pies, dons, hawkers, shinboners, cats, filth (yes, even the filth) said 'enough is enough'.

What have we the fans ever got out of creating this sporting monster called the AFL? We are left with two grounds in Melbourne, pay over price tickets, still get wet and cold (yes, Etihad has a roof - try and close it will you idiots every now and then). Then we compromise everything even further through 'equalisation'. Thats working a treat if your post-code happens to not start with '3' -just ask the dogs, sainters and demons.

Off to Preston to pay minimal $, watch AFL players have a kick, buy a cheap pie and beer, probably get wet (just like at the 'G''), it starts at 2:15 (just like the old days).

I have been a member at Noble Park for over 25 years.
We [lay in the Eastern Football league and are a feeder for the VFL / AFL.
Many household names have come up through our ranks like Glenn Archer, the Morwood Bros.
Last year it was Kyle Martin to Collingwood.

Our playing surface is the best south of the river, and in summer we host district and sub district one day games, both night and day.

The standard of footy is impeccable and everyone gets involved.
A bus, for the princely sum of $15, shunts you to and from away games [ $2 cans on the way of course] and is always packed.
Big enough for pokies and a 7 day Bistro, but small enough for raffles/meat trays and members draws.
This is making me thirsty, might head down this arvo. [walking distance for 90% of members]

G'day Redfin i was born and bred in Noble Park. Lived in Leman Cres at the side of Noble Park High School. I had the elevated hockey oval at my back fence and used to train and do my footy kicking practice with my next door neighbour Stev Marshall on that oval.Steve played for Noble Park Seniors when he was younger probably in the 1940's. He had a very smooth kicking action especially when he stab passed and was surprisingly fast for his age. i guess he was in his early forties at the time. I had a hell of a drop-kick but not the stamina to play the game as it needs to be played but it was a wonderful time to grow up-in the 50's and 60's. I played footy and cricket for Noble Park High School did practice with the local noble park footy cricket and footy clubs.
Anyway nice to hear your story. GO BULLS.
