Had to stay back and work friday night, so didn't get away until Sat morning 5am. On a tip I headed north about an hour and at first light wandered up and down a 500m section of creek before picking my spot for the day.

Hard going. Compacted river rock down to bedrock or clay then bedrock, after 10 straight hours digging out the riverbed I was pretty much done in. Even drinking a beer that evening hurt before I crawled into the jeep to crash out (heh at 7pm). Woke up at 5am and its -2 outside and in. Ice crystals on my wetsuit made for a fun time... Decided to start moving and ended up chasing the sunrise to try and find a hot pie somewhere for breakfast. Victoria is big huh - and those pinprick towns on the map you wouldn't want to blink or miss them. No pie. :-(

Was a slow day today - just aching from Sat's effort. In the end I just took it easy and enjoyed the sun (and a couple of kangeroos scaring the bejeezus out of me on the walk back along the river).

Piccys;

Sundays setup - just messing around in crevasses mostly.

Back to NZ the next couple of weekends. So gives me some time to think where next.

sounds like a great trip mate..... by the sound of it, a hot pie would have made it perfect though :lol:
thanks for sharing your pics

Thanks for the post and looks like a splendid adventure. Great looking stream and a nice tail of gold, combined with the sunrise and wildlife is what makes these sorts of excursions so memorable. Best of luck next time out.

Cheers Wal.

that colour you got there looks very firmilar ey :lol:

glad you had a good time mate :cool:

Yeah, thanks for keeping us interested in getting out there-in all temps. It is beautiful just being there isn't it. Who needs poetry to explain it.
Just makes me want an antihistamine tablet to cure the itch.
