Advice wanted please!

Hi all, basically I have just become interested in prospecting (not been yet lol).
I would like to have some advice on the best way to start looking for Gold. I have done loads of research on the local area and suffice to say there would be enough to get me out of the house and into the bush.
I am confused as to actual machine detecting, panning sluicing etc.
Could some one just give me some general advice as to this Gold Prospecting as though your talking to a absolute newcomer, cos I am.

Get on youtube and search for "WalnLiz" one word.
Watch all of their vids.
Another one i found handy is "HowToDrillaWell" watch all of those too.

Use the search function on here or just scroll through the 'alluvial gold' topics.
Years of learning ahead of us Lobster.

If there are creeks in the general area that your looking at then panning in the right areas should reveal a bit of color(gold). Using a sluice or highbanker will allow you to process more gravel/dirt than panning and hence you should get more gold. If the area has been reef mined or larger nuggets have been found or there is little water then a metal detector may be more useful. A gold pan is probably a must have item though and something that every prospector should have.

Once you've settled in a bit just ask the members any questions you like, and I'm sure you will get some great advice.

Thanks for the replys, really appreciated.
I started watching the videos, really informative. To develop an area to investigate, what would be defining factors?
Am I right in assuming,
Past gold finds
Igneous rocks.
Old river beds in these areas.
Seasonal creeks.
all year round creeks.
What are the major markers your researching for?
I spent a lot of years trying to catch and understand lobsters in the UK for a living and never got to understand too much lol......feel like this is the same, thoughts? lol
