Advice on a rock

I just joined this group and only bought a metal detector 2 days ago.

30 minutes into hunting on my first try ever I found a rock. I don't think it's a meteorite but I can't seem to figure out what it is as I'm new to all of this.

I sanded down an edge and it's black. It is magnetic. It is rusted on the outside. It leaves a dark brownish close to black streak on the bottom of a white coffee mug. There are no crystals etc.

I'm pretty sure it's a meteor-wrong but don't know if it is something like magnetite etc.

Any ideas?

I found a lump of "slag" that had been molten, very similar color and properties you mentioned. If like to know what it is too

Hi AtomRat. Slag is one thing I'm thinking it is. As I'm new to this I'm not sure what it is or isn't. Popular theories are Basalt, hematite and magnetite. I just don't know.
