G'day PA,
My name's Nick and I have never done this before. I want to learn a new hobby and a hobby that can provide a potential income is desirable. Excuse me while I ramble on.
When I first played golf I went to a driving range and started hitting balls.
I hard wired bad habits that I could not unlearn.
I want to do this right so I hope I'm in the right place.
Right now I have zero funds but I am hopeful to get a modest lump sum which might be enough to get me a decent detector .
I am hoping to avoid the newbie mistakes and avoid wasting money I simply don't have on things I don't need.
In short I'm hoping you guys can share your priceless knowledge so I can bypass years of trial and error and have me detecting with a great swing first time I walk onto the course.
Excuse the golf metaphors.
Each hobby has its own culture and etiquette. I am completely ignorant to this hobby and I know absolutely zero, I have no clue on how willing hobbyists are prepared to share their knowledge and whether there are questions considered taboo, so if I overstep my boundaries please feel free to put me in my place.
Having said that , I have no intentions on asking anyone where they detect .
My questions initially will be confined to purchasing a detector and how to use all the functions. Then progress onto which detectors are considered the best and why, then move onto the panning process. What equipment everyone prefers to extract their target from the rubble.
I look forward to reading everyone's replies, learning from your experiences and perhaps making a few friends
Thanking you in advance from giving me a starting point in a new hobby I hope will be a great way to spend my spare time

Cheers

Niko
