Occupational hazard for the prawn trawlers in the Gulf, a mate that worked up there said sea snakes were a daily catch with the prawns. I have dived with them on many occasions and they have never been aggressive, different matter when they are yanked out of the water.

Nets would often be full of them..

Fangs face backwards as meant to hold their prey etc. The risk comes with the web of your hand between thumb and finger or finger or edge of you hand, if a big one.

One of the deck hands would skin and tan and make all sorts of gear from them, only time i ever saw him in a fluster was with new crew who just had no clue about snakes and or many other nasties.. Seen more people get bit playing with small sharks or badly spiked by fish and shell fish in general.. And stone fish are the worst..

Coming from the UK I doubt that he would even been are that sea snakes were in the area, he may of heard of them but they would of been the last thing on his mind.

The UK only has 2 types of snakes, One is the grass snake which is not poisonous and the Adder which is a member of the Viper family and it can't bite through ya jeans but it is poisonous, with most people it will make em sick and a bit sore and it could kill people with a heart condition or very small children and they grow up to 3 ft long, but I have never seen one or known of anyone to have been bitten by one.
