Just thought id share a story.
When I was a kid my father would take me to a creek near my home town. We never usually got bugger all but I remember an old fella showing me some pickers that made my eyes light up.
Now that im older and back into the hobby I was keen to give those spots another go. But sadly were all on private property now and access was rather difficult.
Recently my cousin has bought one of these properties and now I have all the access that I would ever want. :D
Today was just like the old days. It was just dad and myself trying our luck in the creek close to where we used to get gold.
Just like the old days we weren't getting much but each pan had somthing. Its good to see the old creek still producing some colour.
We only went out for an hour before dads back become worse for wear but we both went home happy.
We were both reminiscing on the old days. I was thinking of back when he used to take me there as a kid and he was doing the same of when my grandfather used to take him out.
Might take the highbanker there next trip and show dad what sort of colour we can get if we move alot more dirt.
cheers Greg

I love hearing how things get passed down. Sometimes (and I'm not old) i think children today miss out, I still have a few memories of my grandad taking me out, but the bug skipped a generation, my old man is only remotely interested. But we were always outdoors. Not locked up but out in the wilderness. There's something timeless about that. I'm not the sentimental type usually but its great to hear you guys adding to those moments from the past. I still get out with some old prospectors and detectorists, and learn something everytime. May you find many days to enjoy it with your dad mate, good times.

That is precisely why, I have started, not only do I have start building some background, it will be great way to engage my children into some Mum will be doing someday for a job, and learn. As I live in the Whitsundays what a great place, I don't have to travel far to access a very good gold field (20 mins), who knows, with some work experience with current lease holders, I may be able to view the elusive "Duffer vein" in the no 1 shaft. There is a perfect replica of the shaft in Proserpine Museum. My youngest daughter already likes diggers....

Thanks guys. The obsession for gold does seem to skip a generation.
My father definatly isnt into it as much as myself or my grandfather but I reckon after a run with the highbanker he might change his mind ;)
