To conquer or be slaves
The Southern sun will grant us freedom
or set upon our graves"

Beautiful she is loamer, the symbol of democracy in our stunning wide brown land and my vote for our national flag!

Just finished reading "The Eureka Stockade" written in 1855 by a man who was there in all its devastation and glory (Carboni Raffaello). Peter Lalor's chosen interpreter for the multitude of foreign diggers, as he spoke 5 different languages.

Brutally honest, and very emotional reading....simply fantastic stuff with all the old colonial slang etc

Google books link for anyone interested :

The cursed Tax and the brutality of its inspection.

Our beautiful and loved flag. I ignore its abuse and misuse by the right and the left side of politics and just admire it for what it is and what it stood/stands for. I hope the day will come it will be our national flag!!

ditto - my thoughts exactly......

I look for it every time i drive through Ballarat and a glorious sight it is to see it lazily wafting in a gentle breeze.

Been in the news a bit lately ...... A couple of missing pieces will arrive in Ballarat to be displayed with what was already on display (originally at Art Gallery now at MADE)..... Don't know if they are being returned permanently to help piece the remnants together or whether they'll go to their current "owners".

Metamorphic, thanks for the post and link to the Carboni Raffaello book. I recently read "Eureka" by Peter Fitzsimons. An excellent read that I would highly recommend for those that have not already read it. I just purchased "Sons of the Southern Cross" by Grantlee Kieza. After I have finished it I will have to read Raffaello's book.
