A Few Recent Finds

The photos show a compilation of a few hunts I've done this year.

The crown button and lock were found pretty close to where we think a number of shanties stood. In that area I found another 10 buttons or so all in a 3 x 3 metre area we've walked through/by/around multiple times. I wonder if a scuffle had broken out there.

The pick for me is what I think is the Chinese matchstick holder. The same pattern is on both sides.

The big Chinese coin is the biggest I've found. As big as the young head Vickies from the 1860s. I've lined them up by size rather than anything else.

The silver is a pretty well worn 1820 shilling. The pennies are from the 1860s.

Some nice finds there!
I have a place that was a line of shanties, the first target was 1cent everything after that was tin foil and small steel nails and I havent covered more than 3 square meters.

The T field is a really nice piece and is one of Sydney early potters started in the mind 1840s this piece is likely a piece of Ginger Beer bottle dating to the very early part of the 1850s

That match safe is gorgeous! Great find!

I did a bit of a search online for them, and found a similar one with that same shape with the cut in corners.
I think it may be Japanese. Sorry, didn't have the date on the one I found though. But think it may be the same maker as the one pictured.

Megsy - a knowledgeable bloke on another forum also suggested a Japanese link - but he thought it was an English interpretation of a Japanese design. Either way it's cool.

Sweet finds, I wish I had Chinese coins at my favourite sites like that! Unfortunately the gold nearby wasn't alluvial so not a big Chinese presence, only a few bigger English-owned mines. Funny and good to see another circular pitch pipe reed, I scoured the net to see if anyone else had detected one before and come up donuts, and now you've got one on the same forum in practically a month...

edit: I wonder if anyone would be able to work out the tune on the music box cylinder?

Thanks, I couldn't work out what it was. That's my 2nd from this area. Talking about music, I'd love to find an intact Jaw's Harp. I have a few but with the middle prong missing.
