It's been awhile that I went for a pre-decimal hunt so headed off looking for an old racecourse. I drove all around the site in a very secluded area, shows of quartz everywhere and spied an open area. Not big enough for a round racecourse but probably the start and end of one. Local history suggests that a boy would be positioned to alert punters that the jockeys were returning. No luck there for me of course.
So I went to a nearby favourite site. Using the CTX I found 7 predecs and a few decimals. This in a section I thought I had gone over pretty well with the ETrac. As I was cleaning I noticed that one of the 6d had a "loose" covering. Very puzzling. Using a magnifier I could see that the date below the loose cover was the same as on the cover. It seems that the silver may have been shedding, like a snake skin. Very odd.
Also attached is a recent goldie hunt (though now I dig some of the non-goldies too). I've not got a tonne yet but enjoyable in the cooler days and soft ground.
