Hi all been a member of this forum for a couple of weeks and haven't logged out
I have been a fossicker for a few years I got the bug when I was 16 (46 now) mining for opal in lightening ridge. In the last ten years it has gotten worse back then I had a pan hand spade and some crevicing tools, today I own another seven assorted pans an Angus Mac kirk sluice a Wal & Liz inspired sluice, mine lab eureka gold detector a Garret LS Infinium, vibra-pro 580 water proof pin pointer O and a home made massive beech scoop. I live in western Sydney so I might see some of you on the other side of the hill. Going to Oberon this long weekend looking for gem stones. There's tons of info in this Forum thank you all for sharing. I hope I can be as helpful too some of you
May your finds be big
Cheers from Steve

Hi Digit, good luck with your gem fossicking. We did a bit at the ridge years ago, also Whitecliffs in more recent times. Coming north east from Alice Springs heading towards the Plenty Highway, we stopped round Ambalindum actually looking for a gold area, had a bit of a detect but then ended up at a sign saying fossicking area, drove in and found lots of people camped over a large area. Turned out to be a gem area at Gemtree. It was so interesting and the people so friendly we spent 3 days there just enjoying it and learning how to get the gems. Lots of garnets there. But so much easier to use the 4500!!! Am sticking to gold.
