If ever you feel you might have a flat tyre it's best to hop out and take a look.

But all the tyres are looking good :)

But I think they were both about to leave.

At least the quad is ok.

I was looking for a shady camp spot but that might have to wait. The only trees are in the gully and the storm has just struck so I'm not going there (even if I could).

This repair is going to be interesting! Keep us posted Phil. Try this. Level the drawbar up, as best you can, shove a crow bar up each tube, from the back. Hammer a pointed branch into the tube to wedge the crowbars in place. Good to go. Thank me later. lol.

Hi Phil,

You got a drill and half a dozen bolts..you could drill a large hole in the bottom of the rhs a frame to get the nuts closer to top of the rhs a frame

I've had a similar incedent and was lucky enough to be near a minesite that was in care and maintenance and was lent a welder and steel to fix it myself...the things we do!!!!!

I bet there is no mines up where you are

Hope you can get yourself out of your pickle...let me know if you cant find a way out

Cheers,Ron and Sherri

Guys, all these fixes are great. Last time, yes there was a last time but it was the twin quad trailer, we pulled the pointy end of the drawbar forward into the V of the bit left on the trailer. Then we just had to drill and bolt them through. That was in the bus with all the gear.

This time was just a rush trip with virtually nothing. I nearly didn't even pack a handful of tools because I'm only meant to be away for a few days. What can happen in a quick dash out bush and back?

Actually what caused the real problem last time was the ratchet strap and snatch strap that I slung over the roof and back to the coupling. It pulled the a-frame back into place nicely but 30km on when it broke off completely all that was attached was a snatch strap from the vehicle to the top of the trailer. It had no option than to topple forward in a spectacular roll. It was not a pretty sight when the door was opened to reveal the two quads, jerry cans of water and fuel and a whole heap of other junk all mixed together. Fortunately the quads stayed strapped into place so they were undamaged. I don't want to repeat the exercise but it seems I'm halfway there.

The problem is I'm nearly 800km from home and 43°C. Nobody is jumping at the chance to come and rescue me 🥵
I have found that it can be useful to carry a few short lengths of chain and some sturdy turnbuckles. Using these it is sometimes possible to draw things back into shape and hold them securely pending proper repair.

Yes but it's a bit like carrying a spare fan belt. If you've got it you'll never need it. I bought the little inverter welder to take with me but because I'm only in the little Hyundai I didn't want to bring the big generator and the little one wouldn't do it. I could easily set up a welder from batteries but these days using lithium batteries that's not an option.

wiley coyote made a good suggestion as well but I only have one crowbar and no axe. I didn't come prepared to break down

It's 43°C right now but the mining registrar in Karratha told me there's a front moving in so I might get another wet night. I've called the Nullagine police but that diverts to Hedland and they can't contact the guys at Nullagine. I called the shire but the message just says the phone is unattended. I called the pub and left a message. I called the post office and left a message. I called two local mining contractors. One called back but he's in Geraldton and the other is yet to respond.

My brother will come from Busselton but it'll take him two days and with this temperature he's unlikely to hang around long enough to pay for the trip. Mrs M will come but she doesn't want to be here with the comforts of the bus and she won't drive that all the way here.

It looks like I might be forced to hang around and dig gold
