Yes, It has a hot spot feature where you turn it on an
then using wifi, Link a laptop
or what ever to access the internet.
I do that all the time with mine and it works well.
10 tablet is pretty big but if you dont get sick of carrying it around at least you wont get sore eyes squinting to read the detail.
Many mapping apps allow you to save a map in offline mode so you can still use it in the field with live GPS tracking even if you dont have internet coverage in that area.
As mentioned a 10" Tab is fairly large and yes, most will Hotspot. The first thing you need to do is consider what it is you want the Tablet for in the first place. Then look at the Apps available that will do what you want. That should happen before you spend a cent.
I'll try to explain Hotspot to you as simply as possible.
1. A modern mobile smart phone is capable of receiving internet across the mobile network, providing you have a mobile signal.
2. Assuming you have a good mobile signal, you switch "Data" on in the phones menu which allows internet.
3. A mobile Hotspot or Tethering is where you wireless connect your Tablet to your phone and use the phones connection to the internet but on your tablet. The tablet does not need a mobile network SIM to do this.
4. Most phones can connect via other methods. My phone will connect to my Laptop via WiFi (wireless), Blue Tooth (wireless) or by USB cable (Wired). I prefer USB where possible as it takes signal strength of Tethering out of the mix and at the same time my laptop is charging the phone.
If you want to go top end you could look at the Microsoft Surface, as it is a fully functional PC that in its basic form is a tablet. But you can get a snap on keyboard for it that doubles as a screen protector. Having said that be aware that the screens are sensitive and if you break it they are almost impossible to repair.
