Can crust deformation / seismic activity be detected?

Thats What I said there is no correlation between surface temp and seismic activity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! With the poor thermal conductivity of rock the heat that is generated with fault movement may heat up the surfaces in contact with each other but the fact that most earthquakes occur at...

    Gold bearing rock types

Looks good to me do a few more test you might get lucky. Gold can be patchy and tend to concentrate in certain areas along the quartz vein with barren areas so test in a number of spots too. the highest concentration of gold should be on the outer edges of the vein.

    ct

Ramjet is correct alluvial gold is often a high purity as the silver is leached out by the time you find it. Though the region the gold comes from will dictate this, as a general rule Ballarat gold is close to 98% pure where as gold from the east of the state is closer to the 89% pure.

    Garret AT Gold for sale

The AT gold can be set up to handle highly mineralized ground. The DVD provided takes you through this in a easy to follow process. For a entry level unit you cant really go wrong with a AT gold. As GD said its a big step up to the SDC2300 in price. So depends on your budget.

I have been told that Boral ran a gravel pit near Ballarat since they where not in the gold the just sold it as road base thus paving the roads with gold. They felt it was more effort that it was worth. The bluider of the must have found a similar type gravel pit operator.

Goldfields, water tables and bore pumps

what about the legal concerns??? In Victoria you are not simply aloud to drill a bore with out planning approval. Ground water is carefully controlled and you don't want to be the guy who contaminates a aquifer you cant afford the consequences.

    ironstone?

Hey Buzz The rock is basalt and the quartz looking pieces are melt inclusions, simple put as the magma rises from the mantel and passes through the continental crust it picks up little pieces of crust and carries it to the surface where they are deposited in the flow. So save you back mate no...

    ironstone?

Didn't do enough research there mate the basalt flows in Ballarat (AKA New volcanic) are only 2.5 million years old and have nothing to do with the gold that was deposited 400 million years ago.

    Gold extraction using chemicals

Yeah I agree with AtomRat I have done courses on extractive metallurgy and would not recommend it be done in you shed with all the proper safety equipment and know how. Though if the gold is visible it will be best just to stick to gravity separation in my experience blue bowls are not fool...

Types of rocks to look for?

Hey mate as said before no suck thing as a dumb question and in theory yes you can get gold from slate with no quartz. This is dependent on a few factors in case of the Bendigo black shale they contained gold that was trapped by bacteria and drawn down into the mud of a delta. this was then...
