    Changes in Victoria's prospecting rules

I think they will have trouble policing these areas. There are some who prospect at 2am in the morning with no head lamps etc and have been doing so for along time. Are they going to monitor these areas 24/7? 365 days a year.

Has anyone ever go in or prospected in abandoned mines?

Yes, ive been inside a shaft and followed the old timers drive for about 80m i think they went into nearby hill. I found heaps of tiny gold, specimens, round cut out rooms, all walls solid rock i didn't dig any signals in the roof or walls only detected the shaft floors for old timer dropped...

GPX 6000 Normal v Difficult setting

Well 90% of the time I run the 6000 on one block with threshold and in difficult as most areas I goto are heavy mineralised. I have ran it in normal in less mineralised grounds and on pipe clay heaps. I have experimented with max blocks with and without threshold at times to see if target tone...

How limited is a 4500 compared to 6000

When I went to WA i used the 6000 for scouting out patches as its very light and can cover ground quickly. It can find little pieces easy the smallest was a ball the size of the ball in a ball point pen. Although i didn't find any bigger gold with the 6000 biggest being 1.9g. On one patch the...

How hot can hot ground get?

My advice is to widen the hole you dug as it could be in the side wall. Also a crowbar is handy aswell. Usually rusty objects are easier to get at great depths because they oxide in the ground and grow bigger in size. On the detector try lower settings (on gpx signal and rx) as it will make it...

How good are our fancy new metal detectors?

The best way is to own a range of different detectors and try different settings on them, also coils. I own a GMT too and I've found specimens where the gold is so fine the SDC and 6000 can't detect it. But the gold monster can. When i find patches i try to use different machines and coils and...

    WA tenements

Just come back from WA. I and a freind of mine Brought 40Es. All the strangers we encountered didn't buy 40Es as they say the gold police are imaginary things set out to scare interstate people from other states. Next time I won't buy 40Es and just do Pending grounds.

    GPX6000 Coils, Opinions Sought

The 12x7 NF tends to be abit noisy in most mineralised soils and if raising the coil ever so slightly and down again even after ground balancing it still produces some wow noise from the ground. If knocking it against a rock it sounds off too. It has no problems finding gold and targets even...

    GPX 5000 Mono Coil Setting

Be sure to setup the audio tone and response setting and volume setting to suit your hearing. Some people can't hear all high pitch audio signals or all low tone audio signals. Finding an tone which is more noticible to you will improve your overal detecting preformace as your setting the...

    Minelab's next gold machine

Like every serious prospecter when you find a patch you go over it in all setting modes of the detector. And try to cover a patch with different machines. I tried the quietest block 1 found heaps of tiny pieces, then tried mid way and got some more, then tried auto + with and without threshold...

    Minelab's next gold machine

The 9.48g was flat alluvial (really nice pendant piece once cleaned up) the 20g was chunky alluvial piece. The ground however is extremely mineralised the farmer grows potatoes in it.

    Minelab's next gold machine

The 6000 is good, picks up 0.1 at 10 inches. But also missed a 20g at 18 inches and a 9.48g at 15 inches with standard coil. I just wished minelab allowed option to have low tone threshold like they did on the SDC (holding down volume button and turn on SDC to switch it to high or low), for the...

Detectors for Big Deep gold versus Detectors for Small Shallow gold

I don't think the GPZ is the best detector, probably the best price tag! And Nobel prize for its weight. But thats all i think its got going for it. It has failed to see multi ounce nuggets at depth on multiple occasions (in an area) that a GPX 5000, a 4800, and a 4500 could detect noticeably...

    Minelab's next gold machine

The next gold prospecting model might be the FGD (Flour Gold Detector) since there is still plenty of that to be found in the goldfields.

What is this specimen worth please?

If its associated with Australia post, like they might hire contractors to forfill deliveries on their behalf then you still have a claim with Australia post. You might need to contact Australia post directly via their website than deal with the local guy making excuses for his workers.

What is this specimen worth please?

I never send big nuggets, big nuggets are pickup only, my cctv camera sees buyer when they pickup. Theres a sign stating this. Australia post offer insurance on all parcels by default up to 100 dollars, if you need more you pay for more. If its not as described they can send it back, i do a...

What is this specimen worth please?

If you're a person who is only interested is the gold value. However most collectors I've met are more interested in its natural shape, appearance, shifts of colour mixed with the gold. They tend to like spotty gold or tendrils of gold poking out of the rock. It doesn't have to be loaded with...

What is this specimen worth please?

I usually just ebay all my found specimens at the entire weight of the piece regardless of how much rock is in it. for example: 3.7g at gold price, + any fees (ebay fee calculator works best) on auction for 7 days. usually get a few bids and it sells for more than gold price. Never had any...
