    GPX handle problems

G'day Nightjar It is off a friends detector. I understand he knocked the detector on a bush whilst detecting.

    GPX handle problems

G'day Thought I had better strengthen the area where the 4mm bolt is. The new image shows aluminum angled plates both sides of the mount section. They are cut from aluminum angle extrusion. The fix is, I guess, much stronger than the original Minelab handle

    GPX handle problems

The attached photo shows another fix for the weak Minelab handle. The handle was broken at its lower portion where it meets the mount section. A 25 mm "Forstner" bit was used to drill into the mount section. A length of 25 mm aluminum tube was cut at an angle and fitted to the mount section...

G'day Prospectors Since my last comment I have been with a team of 4 hopefuls in FNQ. We found over hundred pieces between us. The most experienced and dedicated chap dug up over eighty, I got a measly four !!! Anyway the Dinkum Swinger mostly worked well for me however here are some...

    Batteries and Bluetooth

G,day We have been using "Bluetooth" for four years now and have not noticed any lag (latency) A simple harness from the GPX5000 to a LiPo battery and a simple bluetooth transmitter is used. Various bluetooth receivers are used: Speakers, headphones and boneheadphones. These all work well as far...

    Batteries and Bluetooth

This will be the third season we have been using Li-Po Batteries and Bluetooth for the ML5000. Now be careful Li-Pos's need very careful management. They can and have caused serious fires. With Li-Po,s, as used in drones etc, they can be managed safely - the main trick is to only balance charge...

    Detector Weight Transfer

We are off North to find one or two decent nuggets ( May 2019 ) so wish us good luck. Above I mentioned the need for a bayonet fitting on the lever-arm extension. That idea was too difficult so I fitted a magnet on the lever arm instead. The magnet now hold the annoying lever arm swinging...

    Detector Weight Transfer

Thanks for your interest aussiefarmer. Yes a one touch decoupeler would be practicle and necessary for effective operation. The present design can be easily decoupled but needs a bayonet fitting on the leverarm extension. I use a lightweight LiPo battery on my unit with bluetooth audio, either...

    Help please

Thanks for all your help folks. With an amature look in the bush it won't scratch vey well and doesn't seem to streak. I will probably get it professionaly checked and, if so, will report the outcome. In the meantime will keep looking for some proper yellow stuff.!

    Detector Weight Transfer

I am in far north Queensland (where people go troppo) digging holes in the ground. Wombats do it to. Anyway I have also been using the Dinkum Swingers and offer the following: If you are strong and fit enough not to need a swinging aid, then thats great. If you are not as tough as old boots...

    Help please

G,day Folks The closest I have come to finding out what these nuggets might be is molybdenite, although they do not exactly compare. Attached is a better photograph showing how silvery the actual surface of the cracked nugget is.

    Help please

G,day Ward69 The stuff I have is hard to bite.!!! So is probably different to what you have. It is also much brighter than that shown in the image. Old habits die hard. Chewing solder when a kid must have had an effect on me as I have been seen trying to dig holes to China!!!

    Help please

Can anyone have a stab at what mineral is in this photo please? I am in the gold fields in far North Queensland and found these nuggets. On breaking one open it looks very silvery. They are non magnetic and give a nice tune. I guess they are lighter than gold. Thanks
