    Fossilized Fern?

My first thought was dendrites too. The fern like patterns form from dissolved manganese and iron oxides that percolate along fractures and bedding planes in the rock.

    Today I COOKED.

Nice little 1.2 kg T-bone reverse seared and finished over charcoal. Served with anchovy butter, a salad and a few bits of home made sourdough toasted over the coals. Mrs Duck eats the eye fillet side, and I get the sirloin.

    Today I COOKED.

How to make burgers. Start with decent steak and mince it yourself. Season simply and cook on charcoal. Wash down with a good old fashioned beer rather than craft nonsense.

    Good camping mattress ?

After having a few different self inflators, I bought a Zempire Monsta Mat from Snowys. Very similar to the Exped, but a bit cheaper. It is very comfortable, and it is remarkable how small a package it rolls up into, considering it is a double. Puts the others I have tried to shame. I'll be...

    Dowsing/divining for gold

Sure, but he used aircraft and not dowsing rods. And Gina has turned a 70 million inheritance into billions.

    Goodbye Mrs. Patrick1

Her brave farewell brought a tear to my eye. What a woman. Give thanks for the time you had with her Patrick. That could only have been written by someone at peace with themselves. Why is it that so many good people go too early, while so many *******s get so long?

Down the beach with the Sovereign

I was down the south coast over the weekend and the beach we were at was actually growing rather than being eroded, despite the very large swell. I've swung there a few times and have concluded that it is one of the cleanest beaches around. No bottle tops, ring pulls or anything else, just a...

    Becoming a Father @ 73

Great update Keith. Sounds like the little feller is responding to some order and structure in life, some caring instruction, and old fashioned parenting. Well done mate!

Never seen this before in the bush

If an emu gets interested in you, put your fingers and thumbs together like a beak, and stick your arm in the air. In emu world, the biggest individual gets to be the boss, so making your self look taller than the emu makes them wary and they keep their distance. Looking at a group of emus at...

    What is this with gold?

Does not look like gold, in fact the yellow coloration does not look metallic at all. Google up some images of gold in quartz for examples.

    Today I COOKED.

HL I did once earn a living rattling the pots and pans, and paid for much of my undergraduate education doing so. That was a long time ago, and I didn't work anywhere special, though. I've always been interested in cooking and eating! And who doesn't like fried chicken?

    Workshop Tool suggestions

Reading your list, the most obvious gap was an impact driver, as others have mentioned. A set of impact drill bits is a good thing, too. I don't think you can get them at Bunnings, though. Sydney Tools or somewhere like that is worth a look for that kind of thing.

What is this...could it be gold?

There is an old saying, if you are not sure or if you have to ask it's not gold! Meaning, that a real gold nugget is generally pretty obvious from the weight or heft in the hand, the way the light plays off it (no dark bits like pyrites) and the colour.

    Today I COOKED.

Thanks, HL I do have a great butcher, who raises his own beef (square meaters - Murray Grey). However, I dry aged the meat myself in a dry age bags, kind of like a vacuum bag, but permeable so that the moisture can escape but the bacteria can't get in. I just salted and seared the steaks in a...
