    Bucket sieve

Thanks Lee. They are ace & I still use mine. A bit flogged out with big holes in it but still does the job. Not my idea - I can't take the credit for it. I did see it somewhere else & thought I'd have a crack myself, few tweaks etc. Good luck on your fossiking/detecting - I'm hooked :P...

If bitten or any major life threatening situation & Im alone, no phone reception, a UHF radio & personal epirb would be better than not having them

how many of you have a 4x4

Got rid of the petrol Landcruiser & now drive a twincab 2005 MK Triton ute with a fibreglass cannopy. 2.8L Turbo Diesel without any computers/sensors etc. Stock except for a supposed 2" lift at the back. UHF, bullbar some driving lights. Surprisingly in stock form, more capable off road than my...

Trying to find good Toyota 4X4 around $8k suggestions?

I got a 1986 60 series. Been a great car. It's the petrol version but was cheap to buy, easy to maintain. parts are plentyfull etc. Virtually bullet proof. Rust in the roof gutters is a big problem. 20-25L/100kms is the downside but it's my work car & customers cop that bill :-D

thinking of hiring out my equipment

I would be hireling out my equipment... Too much risk incase the hireler damages or took off with my gear.

    DIY cargo backpack

I got that one by asking at the opp-shop. The lady working said they didn't have one but she had one in her shed at home I could have

    DIY cargo backpack

Seen a few posts of late about how people cart their gear around & thought to show my set up. It's a GS10 Banker. I've mounted a chicken crate to an old alluminium hiking backpack frame with cable ties. Inside the banker go all the hoses & legs, small pry bar. side pockets hold some gear &...

    Got a little Sluice cheap.

It's just a little tray/box that sits directly under the grizzly bars. Maybe 50/60% or more of the gold stays in there. Easily comes out whilst pump is still running - so the flow over the riffles doesn't surge each time you start or stop the pump. I take it out every 20 or so shovel loads...

    Got a little Sluice cheap.

I tried less angle too but that seemed to clog the riffles up too quick. I did say I'd post a coupla pictures of the riffles I made for my GS10. Here is the new riffle bars fitted in the banker. They are shorter in length to allow for my catch tray directly under the grizzly bars. That's...

    Got a little Sluice cheap.

Well done Ozziii. Nice haul. Yes, banking is addictive. Looking forward to seeing more of your stories, pictures & videos. Top job! Hey Cess, Yeah, I'm with you on that too. I have the same banker & had the same concerns. I've reduced the riffle height to almost half & the water action is...

River / Stream Sluices - advice, information and questions

I have an Angus MacKirk Explorer sluice. Also have a small regular, riffles over expanded mesh over carpet sluice but prefer the MacKirk. Very happy with it. Can move a lot more material with it. Adapts fairly good to the water flow available. Usually classify with a bucket sieve with 1/2"...

    Got a little Sluice cheap.

Looks good Paul, I have the same banker. Best mod by far I've done to it is make up a new riffle bar with smaller but more riffles. Original is 20mm flatbars, I've gone down to 13mm & the sluice performs much better. Allows you to run a smaller bilge pump(longer run time out of battery) or less...

    Bucket sieve

Still using the same bucket sieve for last couple of years. Mesh is starting to show some signs of wear. Must say it gets a hammering tho. Everything upto 9" rocks go in if they need washing. Still my #2 fave prospecting bit of gear after the Garrett Supersluice.

I bank alone at times. No issues.

River / Stream Sluices - advice, information and questions

If I have a good amount of flow, I only classify by picking the biggest rocks out of my bucket. If the material shovelled in dances happily out the sluice without stopping along the way, I don't classify at all & have no probs catching the fines. (MacKirk sluice). Only in low flow I classify...
