    Lesgold’s NOX finds

It is relaxing and quite enjoyable. Wish I’d started this years ago. Went out again for a play this morning and followed a cut in a long beach for 2km. Ended up with plenty of change. Many of them had been in the sand for quite a while. Will see how they clean up. One junk ring and a 750...

    Cleaning spendable coins

Love the thinking Ramjet. What a good idea. If you were to add an alkaline chemical to your water/ sand mix, you would sort the coin problem out extremely well. Could I suggest adding half a shovel of Portland cement and then mix for 2 minutes. Tip everything into a bucket and leave it for a...

    Lesgold’s NOX finds

An 8OZ snapper sinker from that stuff would be rather nice. ( it may be even heavier than lead. Not sure on that one. I know that the pure material is)

    Lesgold’s NOX finds

Hi folks, Needed to get a detecting fix regularly but with the bush being so overgrown, an alternative “therapy“ was needed to fix the withdrawal symptoms. Decided a couple of weeks ago to start using my Equinox 800 on the beach. I’m new to this type of detecting so I will be asking for help...

    Cleaning spendable coins

I agree totally. I want a simple method to clean the coins to make them look acceptable. Not interested in pretty at all. Here is an example of a coin that I found yesterday. I’m not sure that the bank would be knocking on my door to take that one. (Even though it is quite obvious from the photo...

    Cleaning spendable coins

I’m using basically the same mix with a little splash of vinegar and beach gravel instead of the stainless shot. I reckon the shot would clean the coins quickly.

    Cleaning spendable coins

Hi Ozzie, I agree with you about the wire brush trick. That would be painful. Picking up an old printer should be an easy task as the blighters don’t seem to last all that well and quickly end up at the recycling centre. Heatho, how do the coins go that are a bit worn? Will the bank counting...

    Beekeeping

Good to hear Macka. Beekeeping is one area that a lot of the youngsters are drawn to. It seems to hit the spot with them in this complicated modern world. Hope the trend continues. cheers Les

    Cleaning spendable coins

Hi folks, I’ve just started in the beach detecting game after owning a NOX for a few years. It was used initially to find a bit of gold but I never really used it for what it was designed for. With the local gold fields badly overgrown, I decided to get my “fever fix” on the local beaches...

    Beekeeping

Hi Folks, just thought I’d give an update as to how the hives are going. in most years there would be little action and I would be leaving the bees alone until spring. Unfortunately this is not the case this year. The spotted gums are flowering and I will be working the bees throughout winter...

    Today I MADE

Thanks again guys. More things to play with. I like the idea of the speed controller. Thanks for that Tathra. Will try the soap and see how that works and may even buy some of the burnishing compound. I did notice that my tumbler was a little cheaper than the AS models. Lol. Perhaps this should...

    Today I MADE

Thanks for the input guys. Being new to coin hunting means a lot more learning, which is fun. I’d like to hear more ideas in relation to this topic as I have no idea as to what I’m doing. That doesn’t worry me a great deal as spendable coins are really just coffee money. If I ever found anything...

    Today I MADE

Gave the tumbler a test run this morning. Started with a few silvers that I found in the past couple of days on the beach. Ran them through the tumbler for half an hour with some beach gravel, detergent and some water to clean off some of the gunk. Still badly stained so they went back in for...

    Today I MADE

Hi Folks. Just finished making a coin tumbler from an old printer that I was just about to throw out. Stripped it down to the feed rollers and motor and then connected the motor to a 12v dc power supply that I had lying around. Made a tumbler from 90mm storm water fittings with screw cap ends...

Sorry to hear that MM. Lismore copped an absolute pasting with those two floods. I have heard that my old high school may be closing after the flood damage it received.

That’s disappointing Phil. The 6 can be a “naughty child” and lead to wells being dug from time to time. Your clip is a good example of why Minelab needed to include a DD coil as part of the package for this detector. i hope that your next deep signal uncovers an endless gold reef. cheers Les
