Searching in the wrong places !

It's a Geological Survey of Victoria map available from DPI offices for a fee, I head down to my local Ballarat DPI branch and inspect the same maps they have on public display in the front office. I buy the ones I want, the ballarat DPI also have all the doug stone maps and assorted prospecting...

    Trapped 2.3k down!

I seem to recall most of the really deep mines are in South Africa. It's funny to think that fire can be such a deadly thing when your surrounded by rock, 2 km up a escape way is a bloody long way! Hope they make it.

Searching in the wrong places !

I like these maps sort of spells out the areas you should be.

    something got me thinking

I'd much rather deal with DPI than Council. They may not be very bad else where but they are shocking around my area. HTY - the info I put up was to illustrate the cost of going from hobby to small mine, which could explain why there re so few small mines in Vic. Also something to consider is...

    something got me thinking

Been involved in big mining as maintenance supervisor in WA & NT, done various mobile plant sub contract jobs around the bigger Vic gold mines ie Stawell, Fosterville, Costerfield, Maldon and prior to that ran my own manufacturing company in melb for 10 years suppling BHP, Rio, etc. . Also...

My beach rig - the sovereign

Figured that would be the case given your in Newcastle, my bro only goes about knee deep on low tide at the surf beaches. I'm no 100% on the theory but he gave me a run down on the science of sand movement and the best times to hit surf beaches, basically as we know gold in any form sinks and it...

    something got me thinking

TBH I haven't spent a great deal of time prospecting north of Ballarat, the one thing that puts me off Clunes is the millions of giant volcanic boulders.

    something got me thinking

The pump it self is reasonable (90s4et model no. courtesy of my missus ;) ), it's the bore it self that costs the coin. Thread well and truly hi-jacked

    something got me thinking

Absolutely the machines don't pay for them self sitting around rusting :)

My beach rig - the sovereign

He's down in vic on the Mornington peninsula, lots of popular beaches around port phillip bay down there and a short drive to some popular surf beaches. His biggest problem is stopping his missus from keeping all the good stuff :)

    something got me thinking

GeoVic has a historical water table depth layer which is pretty handy for bores. However if you did go this route you pay the driller per meter and a bore pump would set you back an additional 30K minimum. As well as a host of water board and council BS. I would only consider a site that could...

My beach rig - the sovereign

My brother does a lot of beach and sand bar detecting he finds heaps of jewellery, more in the water than the beach. Surprisingly over last Christmas hols my GP did really well on coins at the beach. My Bro's favourite answer to people that ask what he's looking for is "ring pulls" :rolleyes...

    something got me thinking

Speaking of weather, you'd have to schedule your construction phase to fill your dams.

Interesting or should I say don't encourage me :)

    something got me thinking

Definitely have to factor maintenance, but would be so dependant on the condition of your gear and how it's operated it's sort of like how long is a piece of string. you could I guess set aside a emergency fund. On the other hand Planned maintenance/service schedules could be estimated quite...

HTY's hard rock mining tools :)

Tie a float (old 20L plastic drum) to your suction line with a 90degree elbow on the end pointing down it will stop your suction line laying on the bottom of the drive. Also those fire fighters don't like running on an angle it'll cavitate and cook your pump which will cost new seal and maybe a...

Ballarat is my closest branch. Lucky I rarely drink so $50 bucks should be easy to come by. Thanks
