Metal Detecting As A Tool For PTSD Recovery

Certainly had a bad time there SL. My moto for a long time has been " Life's Short, don't waste it " I know it well enough myself as have been fighting the big " C " for 12 years now and am at the age where you go to more funerals than weddings 😢. When you lose mates it cuts deep, but without a...

    Hi Fellow prospectors

Good looking countryside there Dale and only the keen are usually willing to work that kind of terrain. Very similar looking country to what I work near Tuena and remember that the good stuff goes to those who are prepared to put in some extra leg work with their research. A lot of headwater...

    Hi Fellow prospectors

You're on the right track there Dale...Old river systems eroding from beneath basalt caps are generally quite easy to follow. Keep that thought of research going and success will hopefully follow. Just make sure the old river system flowed through Gold bearing areas in the first place. Good luck...

    Sh(t happens...

How heart-breaking Simmo 😢.Looking at those pics though I'm glad you and the family weren't there to try and fight that inferno. The family is safe and loss of life in that scenario would have been so devastating. You can replace everything there but you can't replace losing family.

Hunting "GARNETS" in the Harts Range NT.

Went to one of the old mines a few years back and camped next to a Mica Dump from the mine. The whole pit was full of Mica plates that looked like full encyclopaedia books  and you could pull the sheets off just like opening a large book. The sheets would have been a good 40 cm across and...

Metal Detecting As A Tool For PTSD Recovery

On a serious note though Jen, I have a mate who is a young Army vet who has PTSD and he has just become a member of this Forum a couple of weeks ago. He got the detecting bug big time and recons this hobby is the best thing that has ever happened to him. Just shows how getting back to nature...

Metal Detecting As A Tool For PTSD Recovery

Yeh...that's the one Jen...I think many get that disease and it causes side effects like lack of sleep, nightmares, using four letter words you didn't know were in your vocabulary. Glad it's not contagious 🤔 .

Wanted - Nugget finder 17 x 11 advantage solid skid plate

That's what I have on my 17x11....a solid skid plate and it never lets me down. I run a 17x13 evo quite a bit these days but still can't get myself to part with the 17x11, mainly because it's so light to use. Good luck with it.

Gold and hints to help you find it !

Not wrong there Mackka. I'm pushing my "fossil years" and almost 70 now. Spent since the age of 7 chasing Gold, Gems and Fish, and built up some lifelong friendships with Farmers, Lease holders and even the odd politician . I guess I could say that access to private locations is not of any...

    "GOLD"...It's not worth dying for.

What made it worse they didn't even have a snatch strap or tow rope. You don't even go to Frazer Island without that let alone in the Kimberly.

Metal Detecting As A Tool For PTSD Recovery

Totally agree with that article Jennifer, and the companionship / back to nature benefits should never be dismissed. On a different note however I wonder how many actually get PTSD after digging hundreds of negative targets without a little piece of gold. 🤔

    "GOLD"...It's not worth dying for.

I still vividly remember a trip to a favourite gold location of ours in the remote Kimberly a few years ago, where we came across a young family well and truly bogged in their 4wd. They had been in that situation for 7 days and were almost out of food. Luckily water wasn't a problem as that's...

    "GOLD"...It's not worth dying for.

Good luck over there John. Was great to catch up with you on the last trip to Tibo. Hope the gold cooperates for you on this trip. We'll be back over there next winter for sure.

    "GOLD"...It's not worth dying for.

We are in the middle of the Gold hunting season and many these days are travelling further afield in the hunt for the elusive metal. Over the years we have seen many close calls where unprepared prospectors have come undone by not paying attention to the "What can go wrong" scenarios, which can...

Hunting "GARNETS" in the Harts Range NT.

Had a pic of a Zircon found at Mud Tank on my Face Book page recently and was gob smacked at the size of it . It was the size of a house brick and weighed some two Kilos.....It was in a matrix form but was very evident that it was Zircon. The biggest I have ever seen there was about the...

    Snake sightings, encounters and reminders.

Like that at Grabben Gullen during the summer...we'll often come across at least a couple of red bellies each day but if you leave them alone they will leave you alone.....unless you look like a "skink" :)...problem only arises when you want to disturb them or give them a poke. ;)

    Sh(t happens...

Timing is a bit of a smack in the face but that's the government for you hey. Chin up buddy and put your energy into the rebuild of that wonderful hill you have there, and what a location you have. Look back in a few years and be proud of what you will achieve. 👍
