    Shaking table Mk 3 -

Yes great cuts but be very careful cutting round pieces. I used my big Makita mitre saw for aluminium a lot but it never had a clamp for the material. I gave up after a few pieces left the saw, bounced off the shipping container and the roof before ending somewhere never to be seen again. The...

    2024 Clermont??

We went to Flat Creek station the year before last. It was just $10 a night with adequate camping facilities and we came away with a few grams.

    Weird ROCK - help needed

Reaction to a rock other than gold doesn't mean your detector is faulty. We often find HotRocks. These rocks can give a signal just like gold or often even a sharper signal. Your metal detector will react to any conductive element and more often than not it's iron.

Odd rain Pattern (since confrmed as smoke plume from south-west Victorian wildfires)

They'll land after dark or just abduct a few and give them the Martian treatment before releasing them upon us.

    Whinge of the day thread...

You have to wonder about these people with the mental capacity to dream up these schemes. There has to be a financial gain for the powers to be otherwise these schemes would never get off the ground. When I was a kid I'd collect cage eggs for old Mrs Watson who lived a mile or so up the road...

    Whinge of the day thread...

This seems to be the way most of our grocery items are going. Pick up a pack of muesli bars and you'll find the box if not smaller then only partly filled. Same of you select a packet of biscuits, the pack is either smaller or filled with one-use-plastics. Take a look in the cool drink fridge...

Today I Saw a Native Animal

I think they are learning to live with the passing vehicles. Perhaps all the old birds are being knocked off but now we see a lot of them that stay standing beside the road as the traffic flies past. These might just be the young ones that have grown up living with the fast highway traffic.

Today I Saw a Native Animal

It's nice to get to see these creatures but what a terrible life for a bird that should be souring freely above our great country.

    GPX6000 Faults/Issues

The most common fault is what appears to be a break in the cable where it enters the coil. On one occasion I taped the coil to the shaft so that it couldn't move and then taped the cable to the shaft as well to keep it connected. That worked for a couple of weeks until I got a replacement coil...

    GPX6000 Faults/Issues

I'd better take a look at that battery terminal but so far this new 6000 has worked well right out of the box so I won't be fiddling with it unnecessarily. So far this summer I've hardly been out even on the dryblower. I've go so much work ahead of me for the Heritage Centre that my stuff hasn't...

    Today I MADE

Last year I asked my brother Merv to bring some light forklift carriage chain. It's just a bit heavier than motorbike chain and we cut it to length onsite. I was disappointed in its performance so I went back to using my usual 8mm short link galvanized chain connected to 3mm start rope. I think...

    Magnetic Black Sand Separator

That's quite impressive. What's your theory behind it? Is it working on gravity separation or inertia to throw the gold off first? Oh, I think I've git it. You have a magnetic roller at the end. Very smart :)

    Angle grinder crushers

I've been working on a little crusher a little bit bigger. The truck brake drum is 420mm diameter and the shaft is 50mm. I got the shaft from the rear end of a Lister diesel engine. I thought I could cut a V-pulley into the flange but even the tungsten tipped tools wouldn't touch it...
