    GPX6000 Faults/Issues

It’s a permanent white marker which are better known as paint markers. You can find a better range of colours and tip sizes in places like Officeworks here in Australia or probably similar large office supplies stores in Canada. This one used on the batteries was the small one (Pica) with a...

    GPX6000 Faults/Issues

Got my 6000 back from Minelab today. Suspected cause was contaminant found on the face plate of the battery causing poor voltage. Still a bit mystified with that as the battery used was the second battery only removed from its plastic pack and charged up the night before and being used for the...

Which gold detector would be best for beginner

My thoughts. Disregard the 3000 and 4000 as have been followed by better machines. 2300 - Top performer on small shallow gold and still at the top performance level on those. Will struggle on deeper (potentially larger) nuggets. Pretty sure fire when searching shallow ground in known goldfields...

    GPX6000 Faults/Issues

Just got back from Lucky Strike and after discussions with Minelab the machine has been sent back for checking. Better to get that done now rather than wait until we are in the middle of a trip if it should happen again. Hopefully won’t take too long for the check and diagnosis so we can...

    GPX6000 Faults/Issues

Had my 6000 just over a month now and just a few days ago managed my second day out with it. All was well for the mornings detecting (no gold unfortunately) but after lunch whilst digging out my umpteenth shotgun pellet (I think), I lost the signal and just couldn’t find it again. A little...

Specific Gravity test help - Gold and quartz

This is a copy of an Excel worksheet I set up to do the gold content calculations for my specimens. Regrettably I seem unable to upload the Excel worksheet directly to this site so that others can modify the inputs and use it. If anyone can help me do that, I would be happy to share.. I could...

Long time lurker, first time poster

The greatest learning time in anyone’s life begins at that time when he or she realises how little they know and how much more there is to learn. We are mostly here in the same situation. Welcome guys.

Specific Gravity test help - Gold and quartz

There are some formulae around that purport to calculate gold content but these are generally arithmetic formulae and estimatory and often translated into plug in applications. The true relative content can only be obtained by calculus methods. Calculus is based on common sense idea of doing...

    Warning Order....

Just got the results of my annual blood test for all sorts of things. Dan Murphy would be relieved as my kidney and liver results were still OK.

    Whinge of the day thread...

Makes me wonder who the preferred colonists might have been. Perhaps Spanish conquistadors, Portuguese, French or Russian imperialists, Chinese, or maybe even American. Or maybe just left alone to exist in a Stone Age culture forever. The latter was never going to happen in a world starting to...

    Night detecting

The more I think about it the idea of a group of mates sitting around having a few cooling drinks over dinner and then walking around in the dark in a bush filled with trip, fall and bump hazards makes me feel what could possibly go wrong? Also remember the big golden orb spiders that are active...

    Night detecting

A trip caused by a small branch, clump of grass, rock or even an unfilled hole can be just as dangerous as the risks posed by some of the larger hazards. You will need to walk very slowly and make sure of every foothold. Maybe that's a good thing. If you must, the moon will be about 60% full...

The Riddle of the Missing Gold

Whilst panning you will have done maybe many tens or even hundreds of pans. Among those surely there would be some duds even for creek 1. Unless the bucket wash is proven by panning the chances of dud buckets is probably just as high. It maybe just a matter of chance and just perseverance is...

    Other Gold Detectors....?

Simple choice. Get a Minelab PI gold machine and a good treasure machine. The holy grail of a machine that seems anywhere near the best at both has yet to be achieved. My opinion.

Funny government announcing a supermarket price enquiry, when there are such huge out of control taxes, levies and other costs applied between grower and retail sale point. Just to name a few. Taxes - Payroll, Company, GST, Land, Rates etc Workers compensation and general insurances Fuel excise...

Prospecting / Gold detecting tours & training Victoria

Slatey creek Creswick, Sailors Creek Daylesford to the west, Reedy Creek El Dorado to the north are mostly available. To the east, most of the rivers and creeks running south from the divide in Gippsland have gold but you would need to check wether any restrictions apply. Also don’t forget a...

    Today I MADE

Today I made a Bonsai display stand. I like bringing some of my Bonsai indoors for a few days every now and then and to show off to visitors, but Gina was unhappy with putting the pots directly on our tables, especially the ones with her quilted runners on. Just from a few offcuts laying about...
